Position Description
Advertised Job Summary The Assistant Director for Research and Grants will be responsible for identifying, developing, coordinating, conducting, and managing significant research projects to expand the ongoing research agenda of the National Resource Center and to advance its mission. This includes developing and coordinating ongoing and new research projects, disseminating the research conducted by the Center, pursuing opportunities for external funding, overseeing the Center’s grant initiatives, supervising the research and grants team, and managing financial activities related to research and grant projects for the Center.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 5 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications PhD or ABD in Higher Education or a related field
3+ years’ leading original research in higher education or related settings
Advanced analytical skills with knowledge of STATA and/or R
Experience with qualitative and/or mixed methods research
Previous experience ing for, being awarded, and managing research-focused grants
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Strong statistical and analytical research skills. Proven Knowledge with quantitative research and comfort with qualitative research. Attention to detail and thoroughness, accuracy, and strong written and oral communication skills are essential. Energetic, innovative, flexible, and thoughtful individual who can think proactively in developing our efforts to serve national and international audiences.
Job Duties
Job Duty Develops, coordinates, and conducts significant research projects related to the Center’s mission, which includes the all phases of data collection (e.g., instrument development, survey administration, conducting interviews), data analysis, and dissemination of findings (e.g., executive summaries, monographs, scholarly journal articles, conference presentations, etc.) for the ongoing surveys for the National Resource Center (e.g., National Survey of First-Year Seminars, National Survey of Sophomore-Year Initiatives) as well as the identification and development of new research projects to expand the ongoing research agenda of the National Resource Center and to advance its mission. Includes the coordination of quantitative (e.g., national surveys) and qualitative (e.g., case studies, document analysis) research projects.

Job Duty Identify opportunities for external funding and pursue granting prospects that support and expand the Center’s research agenda. This includes writing proposals, collaborating with appropriate University development and grants staff, and communicating and maintaining relationships with foundations, government agencies, and other grant-giving organizations to be considered for grants and to fulfill their requirements. Maintain consistent communications with other Center teams (Conferences and Continuing Education / Research and Grants) to strategize promotions for their events, courses, awards, and publications.

Job Duty Supervise and assign work for all permanent and temporary Resources and External Relations staff, including the Research and Grants staff, including the Data Scientist, Post-Doctoral Research Associates, Graduate Assistant(s), Coordinators, and Practicum Student(s). Ensure high-quality work product of all staff, and support staff development.

Job Duty Coordinate the Paul P. Fidler Research Grant and other grants sponsored by the National Resource Center, including collaborating with Center and USC staff on the promotion of the grant, overseeing the selection process, administering the grant award, and maintaining communication with the current and previous grant recipients.
Manage all financial activities related to research and grant projects for the Center, including maintaining budgets for research and assessment projects, developing and managing partnership agreements for collaborative research, grant, and assessment activities, and the disbursement of Center-sponsored grant awards.
