Arts and Sciences | Psychology Position Overview The Buckeye Brain Aging Lab (B-BAL), directed by Dr. Scott Hayes, conducts research on the relationships among aging, physical activity, cognition, and brain function using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) metrics. The lab also examines neural correlates of memory in both healthy and clinical populations. The Research Technician will support the coordination and execution of research activities, including neuropsychological testing, MRI data collection, data processing, and participant recruitment. The role also involves supervising undergraduate research assistants and assisting with administrative tasks related to research operations. This position is available for one year with the potential for extension based on performance and funding availability.

Key Responsibilities Research Coordination and Participant Management:

Recruit, screen, and schedule study participants, including young and older adults. Coordinate and manage participant appointments for cognitive, MRI, and physical fitness assessments. Handle participant payments and maintain research records. Submit and track IRB amendments as needed. Assist with lab purchasing and record-keeping.

Data Collection:

Obtain informed consent from study participants. Administer cognitive tests, both computer-based and paper-and-pencil. Conduct MRI data acquisition. Maintain detailed records of data collection procedures.

Data Processing and Analysis:

Process and analyze behavioral and MRI data using software such as FSL, AFNI, or SPM. Work with UNIX or MATLAB to facilitate data analyses. Assist in the interpretation and reporting of research findings.

Oversee Undergraduate Research Assistants:

Oversee and mentor undergraduate students assisting in research projects. Provide training on research protocols and data collection procedures. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a social science, computer science, physics, or engineering. At least one year of relevant experience in cognitive testing and/or MRI data acquisition and analysis. Desired Qualifications Experience with programming in UNIX or MATLAB. Familiarity with neuroimaging data analysis software such as FreeSurfer, FSL, AFNI, or SPM.

Salary Range:

$15.70-$20.67 •The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
