JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Term Research Technician 2 assists in studying cellular mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease neuronal models.

Responsibilities
Performs basic lab techniques (Western blots, qPCR, mouse tail PCR genotyping, microscopy, primary neuronal culture, and transcardiac perfusion/histology), surgical skills in microinjection, and mouse behaviors.
Prepares primary neuronal cell culture.
Perform experiments in primary neuron cells and calcium imaging experiments in neurons and established cell models; take confocal images and analyze the data.
Prepares plasmid DNA, cloning, and transfecting cells to establish new cellular models.
Purchases lab inventory and maintains lab inventory records.
Participates in multiple projects ongoing in PI’s lab (e.g., TRPC3 and tau projects).
Maintains multiple lines of mouse colonies (weaning, genotyping, setting up matings).
Assists in collecting and analyzing data via working with other personnel (postdoctoral fellows and IBS students) in the lab.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or Biomedical Science or a related field. (Neuroscience major is preferred.) (TRANSCRIPT

EXPERIENCE

OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Good organization and communication skills.
Ability to follow directions on experimental protocols or requests from the Principal Investigator.
Ability to master their work schedule to accomplish goals.

WORK SCHEDULE

This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
