FIELD TECHNICIAN
to join our team. This position is within our Water Resources Department located in our Newnan, Georgia office. The Field Technician will perform GIS data and mapping services, as well as GPS data collection for our clients throughout Georgia. The Technician is responsible for reading, interpreting, analyzing, entering, and converting client geographical data and creating or enhancing the information database, maps, and graphics of their geographic information system (GIS). This position is responsible for GPS field assignments to build, update or validate client infrastructure assets. Field assignments typically consist of inspecting, verifying, collecting, and compiling data on infrastructure using GPS collection devices and other, miscellaneous GIS software. This position is expected to assist with map development, interpretation, analyzation, data entry, and other GIS related tasks as assigned. The position requires the use of Esri mapping products, Microsoft Office, and other software daily. The technician will also perform other field activities as needed, such as environmental or water quality sampling. Essential Functions/Responsibilities Perform GPS surveys utilizing GPS receivers and mobile mapping tools to collect GPS coordinates, measurements, and attribute data quickly and reliability in a variety of settings Data processing and quality control checks, equipment/deployment preparation, and other project tasks Provide GIS support to project staff and client technical staff including but not limited to creating and maintaining map products or concept level project drawings using Esri software platforms Coordinate with project staff and utilize GIS to assist in building client base maps Train client technical staff how to effectively use their GPS receiver/mapping tools, manage data, and GIS software Perform other related functions as assigned Work with staff members and clients in a way that promotes teamwork, client satisfaction, and continual improvement within the company Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent Ability to use Esri mapping platforms preferred Read and understand maps and engineering drawings Use computers, tablets, and GPS handheld devices proficiently Work outdoors continuously in inclement or severe weather Stand, walk, hike or ride ATV/UTVs for an extended time in rough and uneven terrain, steep hillsides, creeks, remote areas, and heavily traveled roadways Bend, reach, and move to carry items weighing 25 lbs. or more Travel to support inspection and field data collection activities within the Southeast Ability to work independently or in a team environment and to effectively manage time Must have a current, valid US Driver’s license, with no major driving infractions Salary commensurate with experience and locally competitive.
