Description The purpose of this classification is communications work coordinating the placement of animals at the animal shelter by means of adoption, transfer, and owner reclaims through the use of social media platforms, personal contact, and networking. This work is performed under the general supervision of the Sports & Recreation Animal Shelter Manager in accordance with established policies and procedures and may require working occasional weekends. Essential Functions Conducts outreach to increase participation with animal adoption and rescue associations and to enhance the ‘live outcomes’ of the shelter; maintains positive and open communication with existing and future animal adoption and rescue associations; notifies the associations and coordinates flow of animals for rescue, adoption, or foster program.
Facilitates photography/video of animals for adoption; uploads, posts, edits and updates information on the Animal Shelter’s Facebook page and other social media outlets; develops creative descriptions of available animals for marketing and networking purposes through print and social media.
Works with the Marketing Department to promote positive messaging to the community utilizing media contacts, newspapers, social media and promotional events. Coordinates adoption events at the facility and off site; organizes outreach involvement and activities for volunteers; schedules and trains volunteers.
Recruits and trains Daphne Animal Shelter volunteers and foster program participants.
Assesses animal behavior to make appropriate adoption and foster placement.
Develops and administrates outreach programs to enhance the quality of care for the animals in the shelter.
Coordinates daily activities of animal shelter; opens/closes animal shelter facilities; coordinates animal intake, adoption, and activities; documents all animals entering shelter; ensures proper care of animals.
Provides socialization and training and assists with medical care for the animals under shelter care. Transports animals as needed. Counsels the public and volunteers in basic animal care as well as provides resource opportunities. Performs customer service functions; answers telephone calls and assists visitors; provides information and assistance related to department services, activities, procedures, forms, fees, or other issues. Greets visitors and assists individuals at front counter; shows shelter animals to visitors; processes adoptions and reclaims of animals; prepares, files, and maintains official adoption documentation.
Handles, lifts, and carries animals. Prepares and maintains documentation on animals in shelter, including animal intake, medical history, care, adoption, reclaim, or disposal.
Receives moneys in payment of adoptions, impound fees, fees/services; records transactions, issues receipts, and secures revenues; prepares bank deposits.
Monitors inventory levels of department equipment and supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates request for new/replacement items.
Operates a personal computer, general office equipment, two-way radio, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, Internet, or other computer programs.
Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, animal records, adoption documents, work orders, bank deposits, purchase requests, or other documents.
Communicates with supervisor, employees, volunteers, other departments, law enforcement personnel, other animal control agencies, veterinarians, the public, community organizations, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Maintains a current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws, codes, and ordinances; maintains an awareness of new procedures, trends, and advances in the profession.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; customer service, clerical experience, social media networking preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must have experience administrating social media pages. Preferred candidates will have experience in animal care and welfare.
Licenses or Certifications:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires the ability to exert medium physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of medium weight (up to 50 pounds).

Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment.
