Prevention of Cruelty Chase, LA Description:
Overview of Job:

This position is responsible for assisting with the oversight and success of the Plaquemines Parish campus. The role will assist in managing effective daily operations including Animal Care, Behavior Evaluation, Client Care, Adoptions, and Foster Care. This position will ensure that the highest quality of services is delivered to the community, as well as promote the LASPCA’s overall mission.

Flexible and adaptable, the successful incumbent will thrive in a multi-faceted work environment and is comfortable adjusting daily operations and priorities to meet the needs of our clients, staff, and animals in our care. Must be able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks at one time with a sense of urgency. Excellent verbal and written communication are necessary to provide exceptional customer service and the ability to answer client questions and address concerns in a respectful and timely fashion. Must be personable, patient, and able to get along well with a variety of people. Exceptional motivator and passionate about developing talent, this role will foster an environment where ideas, creativity and regular input from all team members is expected and routine; The role is responsible for building a high performing team, and will manage talent including feedback, performance management and continuous individual development; This includes being skilled at confronting and resolving people issues and any performance issues; Will assist with the training of staff in multiple areas of animal sheltering and partner with Shelter Manager to address disciplinary issues. A safety-first mindset is required as the role will always identify potential hazards in the workplace and model safety practices and protocols; Interested in continuously learning, the individual will regularly seek additional medical and industry knowledge by networking and benchmarking outside resources and through partnerships with other department managers in the organization; Strong critical thinking skills are necessary to identify inefficiencies in current processes/protocols and will recommend continuous improvements and implement solutions; Experienced in presenting ideas and working collaboratively to identify the best solution or path forward; Passionate about animal welfare, the incumbent will treat all animals humanely, properly, and with compassion always, regardless of the situation or circumstance; Position is considered “Core Essential” in emergencies and/or disaster situations; Maintain confidentiality regarding all cases; Perform all other duties as needed and assigned by Shelter Manager. Education and/or

Experience:

High School diploma required. Bachelors or Associates degree preferred. Leadership or team lead experience essential. 2+ years’ experience in Animal Welfare industry. Minimum Qualifications –

Skills and Knowledge:

Multi-tasker who can work in a high-volume environment. Knowledge in Animal Handling/Basic shelter medical protocols Knowledge of Safety Protocols and Shelter Cleaning Standards Process all intakes and outcomes of shelter animals. Knowledgeable about Parish Evacuation Assistance protocols Certified Euthanasia Technician (or the ability to become certified) Knowledgeable and able to uphold and implement Animal Related Ordinances in Plaquemines Parish as indicated by Animal Control. Ability to understand, trouble shoot and communicate a multi-faceted field and cross communicate across departments and campuses. Proficient at Microsoft office and comfortable learning new software/programs. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment substance screening. Must have a driver’s license and willingness to drive trucks, trailers, and larger vehicles.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds; push and pull heavy objects; bend, twist, reach; perform strenuous physical activities including frequent walking and running, standing, bending, and stooping. Should not be allergic to animals or have nut allergies; must be able to work around all animals.

Working Conditions:

Ability to report to work as early as 6:00am and end as late as 7:00pm, and available for weekends and holidays. Potentially subject to animal bites and scratches. Works in an area with a high noise level. Must be able to work with industrial strength cleaners and disinfectants.

Compensation:
