Job Description:

Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission: To protect and enhance Oregon’s fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations. We are hiring for one full-time, permanent position located in Corvallis, however, other ODFW office locations may be considered upon request.

What you will do:

In this position, you will carry out warmwater project objectives throughout Oregon. You will coordinate with district fish biologists and other staff to plan, oversee, conduct, evaluate and implement results of fishery investigations, angler surveys, and fishery development work. You will also be tasked in working with the Recreational Program Manager to develop warmwater fish management policy, coordinate tournament permitting, and provide technical expertise on statewide issues. This position requires a Boater Education Card obtained through the Oregon State Marine Board. There are some exceptions to this (e.g., Coast Guard Boat Operator License or commercial fishing license). For further information, access the Web site at www.boatoregon.com. What we are looking for:
Minimum Qualifications:

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Bachelor’s degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework, or three additional years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program, and Three years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program. At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a fish or wildlife program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities. OR Option 2: Six of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program. At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a fish or wildlife program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities

NOTE:

A Master’s degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Master’s degree in biological/ecological sciences will substitute for up to one year of the required experience. A Doctorate degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Master’s degree in biological/ecological sciences will substitute for up to one year of the required experience..

Desired Attributes:

Experience in research, monitoring, and evaluation of warmwater fish species. Expertise operating and troubleshooting electrofishing boats, and other sampling methods. Experience collecting and recording data Experience preparing reports Experience applying for and overseeing grants.
