$107K – $147K a year 1 hour ago Benefits Leadership training provided Qualifications Fiscal management Management Doctoral degree Computer literacy Economic development Master’s degree Organizational skills Computer skills AICP Certification Senior level Leadership Communication skills 10 years University Full Job Description The Executive Director of the Center for Local Planning provides leadership and broad management oversight for all program activities, including but not limited to (1) strategic planning and visioning to achieve internal and University goals, (2) ensuring the Center for Local Planning fulfills its mission and responsibilities to its stakeholders efficiently and in accordance with University policies, and (3) providing executive leadership and guidance to administrative and program personnel to meet University, sponsor, advisory board, and customer requirements. Leadership Ensure development, marketing, and delivery of training programs Hire and retain a diverse staff of subject matter experts and employees Maintain a working relationship/partnership with local planning experts Oversee and execute proposals for grants (state and federal) Present on various training topics to include marketing and program updates Responsibility in strategic planning, workforce development, stakeholder relations, and development/fundraising Manage human resource and budget issues, performance measures, and general management of the Center for Local Planning agency Management Accountable for managing the Center for Local Planning personnel, budgets, and other resources in accordance with university, IPS, and local planning missions and policies. Manage a Center for Local Planning leadership team consisting of several key staff positions Use a variety of management approaches, systems, and tools to facilitate agency, program, and personnel accountability and professionalism Responsible for various administrative actions, including annual performance reviews (APRs), reviewing and approving agreements, time and leave management, program reports, financial ledgers, etc. Relationships Establish and maintain positive working relationships to aid in the mission and growth of local planning Relationships with IPS Administration, other IPS agencies, other University of Tennessee organizations (including faculty and student resources), and various components of all three branches of Tennessee state and local government are essential to the role May serve on local and national boards to represent the agency, institute and university Establish relationships with higher ed to help create a pipeline of students for future planning positions
Required Qualifications Education:
Master’s degree required in Planning, Urban Design, Urban and Regional Planning, Public Administration, Business, Finance/Accounting, or related field. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) credential is also required.
Experience:
This position requires ten years of progressively responsible experience including leadership role and responsibility overseeing a local, regional, or state government organization with similar goals.

Preferred Qualifications Education:
Doctorate is preferred.

The position can be located in Nashville, TN or Knoxville, TN and will require frequent statewide travel, including overnight travel.
