Bachelor’s in economics or a related field, completed by the start of the appointment, and a demonstrated excellence in academic performance. This position is not eligible for H1-B sponsorship; J-1 sponsorship may be possible for eligible candidates.
Applicants should have 1) a strong mathematical background (including multivariate calculus and linear algebra, with knowledge of higher-level math such as graph theory and differential equations a plus); 2) strong programming skills (including Stata and Matlab, with knowledge of GIS a plus); 3) the ability to work independently; and 4) a long-term interest in pursuing a Ph.D. in economics. Prior research assistant experience is preferred.

The academic cluster on The Challenges and Opportunities of Globalization invites applications for an Economic Research Specialist (ERS) in the area of international economics. The ERS Fellow will work under the supervision of the faculty members affiliated with the Cluster on the Challenges and Opportunities of Globalization, including Treb Allen (Economics), Davin Chor (Tuck School of Business), and Yang-Yang Zhou (Government). The ERS Fellow’s responsibilities include: Assisting Globalization Cluster faculty with research, including processing and analyzing large datasets and coding necessary to implement related economic models.
Participating in weekly internal and external seminars of the Globalization Cluster.
Administrative support for the Globalization Cluster, including updating the cluster website and helping to coordinate the seminars The ERS Fellow will work with department faculty supporting and conducting scholarly research and teaching in anticipation of advancing their skills and experience to prepare for the next stage of their careers. Fellows are expected to contribute to all stages of research – including research design, literature searches, conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and writing reports and papers. Fellows may also have the opportunity to contribute in the classroom or in laboratory sections of courses, helping undergraduate students with labs, review sessions, paper editing and grading certain assignments. This position is full-time for the Department of Economics at Dartmouth College with a start date as early as 1 July 2025. The appointment will be for 1 year, with possibility of renewal for a second year. The starting annual salary is $55,000. Fellows who are working in residence in Hanover are eligible for Graduate Special Student status and the ability to take certain Dartmouth courses with the tuition paid by Dartmouth as a working condition fringe benefit. The benefit covers a maximum of 1 course per academic year the fellow is employed at the College.
