$49.7K – $73K a year 2 days ago Qualifications Law Doctoral degree Research Mid-level Master’s degree Doctor of Law Analysis skills Bachelor’s degree 1 year Leadership Full Job Description JOB This position functions as a technical expert to the Democratic leadership, Democratic legislators, and the public on the subject matters of the policy committees to which the successful candidate is assigned. Under close supervision of a staff director and the Democratic leadership, the legislative analyst applies this expertise when researching and preparing staff analyses, reports, and summaries, responding to inquiries, and developing correspondence.

FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE

Pursuant to sections 112.3144 and 112.3145, F.S., this position is required to electronically file a Form 1 -Statement of Financial Interests with the Florida Commission on Ethics within 30 days of hire

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Analyzes and objectively summarizes proposed legislation to determine its effectiveness based on Democratic principles and the impact of its passage on the state, individuals, and other entities.

Prepares for distribution analyses and summaries, as needed, for bills on agenda in committees to which the analyst is assigned and for floor sessions. Monitors and coordinates the progress of legislation through committees of reference and on the floor.

Briefs legislators verbally or in writing on issues to be discussed in committee, on the floor, or with constituents.

Proposes a strategy for advancing Democratic principles and ideas within the policy areas covered.

Prepares written post-session reports summarizing major issues that were addressed during the legislative session and important votes taken by Democratics on the Senate floor.

Provides information and problem-solving assistance to legislators, their constituents, and the public.

Prepares letters, summaries, talking points or speeches, reports, and informational memoranda on committee issues at the request of the Democratic leadership, other legislators, or staff directors.

Keeps abreast of new and ongoing issues affecting assigned policy areas of responsibility by collecting resource materials, attending workshops and conferences, reading industry publications, and communicating with agency personnel.

Assists in the coordination of the work of the administrative assistant, legislative intern, or other staff members.

Prepares necessary committee or unit reports and budget documents.

Must operate a computer to perform spreadsheet, word processing, and database management applications.

Performs other related duties as required.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION A

bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years of professional experience in research, analysis, program planning and evaluation, or administrative work.

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one year of the required experience.

A juris doctorate or doctorate from an accredited college or university can substitute for two years of the required experience.

Professional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
