Office of Sustainability and Resilience:

This team is guided by a citywide vision: Charlotte will lead, as a global city, by continuously improving, protecting, and preserving the environment, its community, and economy, while ensuring equity and resilience – for today and future generations. Members of the Office of Sustainability and Resilience work to achieve this mission by taking the following approach: The office will create a culture of sustainability and resilience, where everyone (city and community) is responsible for shared success, which leads to Charlotte setting itself as a global leader in sustainability and addressing climate change.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Leads the City’s benchmarking program. Responsibilities to include annual updates for municipal buildings, producing the annual public benchmarking report, and designing, implementing, and exploring community facing energy reduction programs Produces analysis of greenhouse gas reduction and revises strategies accordingly Lead the City’s efforts associated with energy policy engagement with local utilities, the NC Utilities Commission, and State Legislature Collaborates to identify grant and financing opportunities to accelerates carbon reduction efforts Collaborates with City’s project manager’s, building occupants and consultants to make sustainability and resilience a priority Research and develop policy opportunities, internal to organization and citywide that create a more sustainable Charlotte Prepare and do presentations for Department Leadership, Senior Leadership, Manager’s Office and City Special projects as assigned

Ability to think strategically, problem solve and work independently Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to work with diverse groups in collaborative team-oriented environment Ability to manage consultant contracts Exercise independent judgment when representing the Office of Sustainability and Resilience in meetings with other agencies, boards and commissions and community groups Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of city staff and the general public Present information, findings and recommendations in a thoughtful, comprehensive, sophisticated manner Ability to lead and direct work of others May supervise interns or other staff as assigned Exceptional individual, astute with data analytics and communication skills Enjoy & thrive in fast-paced, robust environment Possess innate curiosity leading to process improvements, development of initiatives and better delivery of mission Outstanding project management qualities with strong focus on implementable outcomes Approach work with both flexibility and persistence

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Public Administration, or related field 2 years or more of relevant experience

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the job duties

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
