Job Responsibilities
Manages the update of the State Earthquake Plan and Tsunami Plan. Responsible for all aspects of the State Earthquake Program to ensure proper earthquake related planning, preparedness and response guidance are in place and the program meets local, State and Federal standards. Coordinates directly with the USGS, FEMA, CUSEC and other earthquake and tsunami subject matter experts. Participates in key regional and national earthquake workshops and conferences. Manages the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) grant and associated projects on behalf of the Division. Must be knowledgeable of the principles, concepts, methods and applications of emergency planning fundamentals. Must be able to communicate effectively; assemble and analyze data and translate into concise planning documents; coordinate workshops, trainings and exercises; prepare and present briefings; prepare and present training programs and lead group discussions. The ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with State, local and Federal partners is essential. May serve as a liaison between local, State, and Federal agencies on emergency management programs and operations prior to, during and after an emergency or disaster. Serves as a member of the Disaster Intelligence Group in the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) during exercises and activations.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor’s degree with experience in emergency planning, operational response and/or multi-agency coordination. A minimum of two years of experience in planning, operational response, or joint, interagency and intergovernmental coordination. IAEM or S.C. Certified Emergency Manager (or other state equivalent) certification is preferred or will seek to complete within three years.
