This position is located in the Accounts Payable Unit, at SCDMV Headquarters in Blythewood, SC.Responsibilities of the Accountant III Examines and audits invoices with the purpose of connecting items and amounts to a purchase order. Confirms receipt of merchandise or service. Disbursements of invoices by the means of voucher/IDT payments are checked for accuracy, authenticity, legality and authorization.
Audits invoices for appropriate funding, coding authenticity, remit address, contractual terms, amount and then processes the invoices for payment at the Comptroller General’s Office. Also, payment to the vendor is checked for compliance with state law.
Collects and analyzes data on vendors for use in the fiscal year closeout.
Works with vendors to resolve disputes and ensure services are not interrupted. Research issues with expense variances in order to keep customers aware of differences.
Corresponds with buyers on any variances that exceed departmental and/or state guidelines to confirm authorization to pay.
Retrieves and files vouchers for research/requests from internal or external customers. Thinks and acts independently and promptly undertakes problems and acts upon them accordingly. Answers payment questions from internal/external customers in relation to various payment methods when Accounts Payable Manager not available.
All other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
State Minimum RequirementA high school diploma and professional experience in a related area such as accounting, auditing, finance, or banking. A bachelor’s degree with multiple accounting courses may be substituted for the required work experience.
Agency RequirementsMust complete a nationwide criminal background check to include finger printing.
Additional RequirementsKnowledge of accounting, auditing and bookkeeping principles and practices.
Skills in the area of mathematical concepts and computations.
Ability to analyze, interpret and apply financial procedures and regulations.
Strong research and organizational skills in order to perform accurate analysis of financial records and reports.
Effective communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with all levels of the organization including the general public.
Strong time management skills with the ability to effectively meet all daily and monthly deadlines.
The person in this position must be a self-starter with a positive disposition. Must be able to work independently, with minimum supervision.
This position is a vital part of the Support Services/Accounting Department and must have a high standard for customer service.
