Principal Planner Shelby County – 3.8 Pelham, AL Job Details Full-time $65,083.20 – $97,614.40 a year 1 day ago Qualifications ArcGIS Mid-level Analysis skills Bachelor’s degree 2 years GIS Full Job Description JOB Work involves responsible, professional planning activities involving current planning, comprehensive planning and assisting with special projects. As part of a team, this position is responsible for the administration of land development regulations as assigned. Work involves the responsible and professional review and communication of development proposals and directly involved in developing new and updated plans, programs and regulations for the general development of the County.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintains a thorough knowledge of the zoning, subdivision, and other development codes.

Reviews and analyzes development proposals for compliance with proper land use planning principles and the county’s development regulations, including floodplain and MS4 ordinances.

Guides developers and applicants through the development proposal approval process.

Answers questions from the public regarding land development regulations.

Communicates technical regulations and procedures to enforce development ordinances in response to complaints.

Provides technical information on land use applications, ordinances, plans and related planning programs, services or regulations to property owners, municipal partners and the development community.

Analyzes data concerning land use, housing, utilities and public facilities.

Conducts planning studies and composes reports to summarize results of research and analysis.

Collects and analyzes GIS data for planning and development projects, including ArcGIS Pro desktop solutions, ArcGIS Online (AGO), and Cityworks implementation.

Develops and implements comprehensive land development plans for Shelby County and municipalities within Shelby County.

Prepares staff reports on subdivision and regulatory zoning cases for Planning Commission review and approval.

Attends Shelby County Planning Commission public meetings, hearings and other related activities. May be required to attend municipal Planning Commission and Council meetings, hearings as needed.

Performs work on special projects, prepares reports and land use plans, policies or ordinances as required.

Reviews and monitors permitting and researches the subdivision of land and relevant cases.

Participates in professional association activities and attends conferences, training, and workshops.

Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.

Performs all other duties as assigned by supervision.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Master of Community Planning or related degree and two years of experience OR a Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience.

Two years experience in implementing development regulations with geospatial analysis and solutions, specifically ArcGIS Pro desktop solutions and ArcGIS Online (AGO.)Valid Driver’s License

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

Membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners.
