Position Summary:

Professional position that performs various technical level planning work on standard planning projects in support of the City’s long-range plans and administration of the City’s zoning regulations. This includes carrying out research for planning projects, conducting independent studies, preparing and presenting staff reports, performing final-review site inspections and other development review tasks as needed. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussion, and results obtained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

The following duties are illustrative and not ehaustive. Reviews and prepares staff reports and presentations for standard rezonings, anneations, variances, right of way vacations, and special approvals. Tracks assigned projects and applications from initiation to completion. Performs research, analyzes and interprets data, and prepares reports, maps, ehibits and recommendations for the Director of Planning & Zoning, as well as the Planning Board, Board of Adjustment, the City Manager and the City Commission. Reviews or assists in the review and coordination of site plans for conformance with codes, plans, and regulations and performs on site inspections after construction. Attends and makes presentations at local public meetings including, Planning Board and Board of Adjustment, and any other daytime meetings as required and assigned by the Planning & Zoning Coordinator. Provides planning assistance to the public in person [i.e. walk-ins] or via email, letter or telephone. Responsible for reviewing, eamining, and approving a variety of building permits, covering residential and commercial construction, both public and private, for compliance with the city land development codes and zoning ordinances. Performs other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of comprehensive planning and regulating land development. Knowledge of data collection methods and statistical analysis techniques. Ability to understand laws, rules and regulations. Ability to present ideas and findings clearly and concisely in writing, orally or graphic form. Skilled in the use of a computers and software utilized by the assigned work unit, including Google Earth, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Ecel, Power Point, and Maintstar. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, outside agencies and the general public. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to move around a work site to perform site inspections in the field. Ability to read and interpret aerials, zoning or future land use maps. Knowledge of GIS systems is preferred.

Education and Eperience:

Bachelor’s degree in a planning or business related discipline. A minimum of three (3) years of planning knowledge. A combination of education, training, and eperience may be substituted at the City Manager’s discretion.

Certificates and Licenses :

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and must be insurable by the City’s current insurance provider. National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required according to the job duties and responsibilities within one (1) year of employment.
