The Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Department is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Planner I. In this role, you’ll support a wide range of planning efforts by conducting research on topics such as population trends, land use, transportation, employment, and housing conditions. You’ll help answer questions from the public and assist various City and County departments by providing accurate and timely planning information. Your responsibilities will include collecting and analyzing data for planning projects, reviewing development applications, and preparing clear, informative reports. You’ll also contribute to mapping and data visualization tasks, and occasionally prepare materials such as maps, public advertisements, and legal notices. As part of our team, you’ll have the opportunity to serve on internal committees and task forces, attend public meetings—including City and County Commission sessions—and support the work of appointed planning boards. For the complete job specification, listing essential duties and desirable qualifications, go to Minimum Training & Experience Do you Possess a bachelor’s degree in planning, statistics, business or public administration, demography, or one of the social sciences and one year of experience that includes public planning, demographic or statistical research, or database management. OR Do you Possess a high school diploma or GED AND five years of experience that includes public planning, demographic or statistical research, or database management. OR Do you possess a master’s degree in planning, statistics, demography, business, or public administration. Salary Range $17.9790 to $48.7873/hourly. Hiring rate generally will not exceed $33.6704/hour Driver’s License Requirements Some positions allocated to this class may require a valid Class E State driver’s license. Additional Information Prepares and coordinates the publication of map advertisements and legal notices to ensure compliance with public notification requirements under applicable statutes. Responds to inquiries from the public, as well as City and County departments, by providing clear and accurate information related to planning policies, procedures, and research. Reviews, analyzes, and prepares reports on development applications, offering data-driven insights to support planning decisions. Conducts planning-related research on topics such as population trends, employment patterns, land use, transportation systems, and building conditions. Assists with special projects and planning initiatives as assigned, supporting department-wide goals and priorities.
