The Spalding County Planner postion assists with the administration of the Spalding County Zoning Ordinance and relevantprehensive planning initiatives; supports business registration and alcohol license activities of the County; and provides record keeping for the County building inspection program. This position serves as technical advisor and recorder of the minutes to the Planning Commission and Board of Appeals, and reports to the Community Development Director.

The Planner also:

Contributes to the coordination of various grants for the Department, including (but not limited to) Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
Reviews preliminary plats, construction plans, and final plats for conformity with development ordinances.
Reviews zoning applications, variances, and special exception requests; assists with staff reports to the Planning Commission, Board of Appeals, and Board of Commissioners regarding same.
Background and Qualifications
Spalding County will consider any equivalentbination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the Planner position. This includes those with a degree and no experience, as well as those with experience but not a degree.
Bachelor’s degree in urban/regional planning, public administration, or related field; or
1-3 years of experience with planning & zoning or related field.
The selected candidate must possess, or have the ability, to obtain a valid Gia driver’s license.
Compensation and Benefits
The expected starting salary range for this position is $54,300 – $60,000 depending on qualifications. Spalding County offers apetitive benefits package for employees, including medical, dental, vision, and voluntary life insurance; short-term and long-term disability benefits; a defined-benefit retirement plan, an optional 457(b) retirement plan, and a generous leave program including 12 paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, andpensatory time off.
