City Planner City of Washington Washington, MO 63090 CITY PLANNER Coordinates Planning and Zoning activities for the City of Washington.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
One to three years related experience and a bachelor’s degree from a college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Degree in Urban Planning or closely related field.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATION
The person in this position must have a valid Missouri driver’s license; Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners is preferred but not required. General Purpose of Position Provide planning services for the Planning & Zoning Commission and act as a coordinator to the Planning & Zoning Commission by assisting applicants in submitting completed documents. Conduct research for the Planning & Zoning Commission regarding planning trends and other related issues. Assist the City Engineer and Building Official in site plan review related to zoning provisions. Writes proposals for grant funding. Administers and implements the City’s zoning code Reviews special use permit requests, preliminary plat approvals, and rezoning requests. Addresses citizen questions and concerns. Keeps current and proposes changes to the city’s zoning code and subdivision code to reflect sound planning principles, state and federal laws. Coordinates zoning variance process through the board of Adjustment. Researches legal descriptions necessary to determine that proposed construction meets current land use regulations Participates in public relations and education Serves as the staff liaison to the City Council, various committees and boards, attends meetings as required. Communicates regularly with various stakeholders, including City staff, other government entities, contractors and developers. Provides technical assistance to city officials and the general public regarding land use issues as requested. Prepares legal descriptions for development properties and ensures that the public is notified in accordance with applicable regulations. Mediates and resolves zoning and land use issues through administrative processes set forth by state statute Oversees the City’s comprehensive planning processes Assures compliance with city’s comprehensive plans. Recommends updates to various plans as needed. Assists other departments with long-term land use, economic development, or similar plans Provides status and implementation reports as needed
