ABOUT THE POSITION
Transportation Safety Engineer/Planner•Analysis | Hybrid | Bedford, NH VHB is seeking a dynamic and talented Transportation Engineer/Planner with a passion for highway safety analysis to join our growing Bedford, NH Safety Team. As a member of the Safety Team, the selected candidate will support our clients’ efforts to save lives and prevent injuries from motor vehicle crashes. The successful candidate will have experience in highway safety analysis, traffic operations or roadway design, statistical analysis, and alternatives development and analysis. Hybrid work environment•Minimum of 3 Days in office required Applicants must be legally authorized to work for VHB in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Responsibilities:
Apply basic understanding of highway safety principles.
Employ knowledge and experience in a variety of safety related topics, including Safety Data, Highway Safety Manual, Highway Safety Improvement Program/Strategic Highway Safety Plans, and Highway Safety Plans
Perform data analysis to diagnose safety issues using crash, roadway, traffic volume, and socioeconomic data.
Develop safety solutions which consider all users, including motorists, bicyclists, public transit users, and pedestrians of all ages and abilities.
Prepare technical reports and briefings on the findings and recommendations from safety studies.
Assist in the preparation of presentations to clients and the public on the findings and recommendations from safety studies.
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Team oriented with strong capability to work independently.
Understanding of highway safety fundamentals
Ability to apply data analysis to highway safety.
Enthusiasm to learn and ability to take responsibility.
Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail.
Familiarity with Highway Safety Manual and related tools and techniques.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Planning, or related field required
1-3 years of professional experience in transportation/highway design engineering, planning or traffic operations, including some experience with highway safety analysis required
Proficiency with industry-standard software (ArcGIS, Microsoft Office Suite, database management) required
Experience with statistical/programming software (e.g., R, Stata, SPSS, SAS, Python, Java) preferred We are VHB!
