Role:
As a City Planning Technician, you will provide intermediate technical and administrative support for the City’s planning functions, including zoning, land use, signage, and public communication. This position is ideal for individuals who are early in their planning career and are eager to grow into a City Planner position in the future.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct signage reviews and inspections for permit issuance and code compliance. Assist with zoning and land use reviews for Change of Tenant processes. Prepare planning commission and zoning appeals packets. Conduct property research and assist with benchmark surveys. Help review commercial development plans and landscape inspections. Enter and track documents in the City’s planning workflow system. Post, track, and collect public notification signage for hearings and public meetings. Provide backup support for administrative office operations. Support U.S. Census activities and other special planning projects. Perform other duties as assigned by the Development Services Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in planning, Public Administration, Urban Studies, Social Sciences, or a closely related field. AICP Certification (or ability to obtain certification).
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and basic GIS/graphics mapping software with strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Understanding of planning principles, architecture, engineering, and zoning regulations and a demonstrated interest in growing professionally into a City Planner position. Why Join Us?
