ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

: Works under the direction of an assigned supervisor in Housing and Community Development (HCD). Monitors special development projects and various programs as required. Assists in the development of resources and programs to meet community needs. Develops planning projection for grant and other programs as needed. Assists in the development of plans, including annual plans, agency plans, neighborhood plans, and others as assigned. Prepares check requests relating to programs as needed. Prepares various required reports according to government regulations which may involve researching, analyzing, and compiling a vast amount of data. Inputs and maintains computerized data. Assists in monitoring various databases related to housing and community development to insure that current and accurate information is available for use by the entire division. Collects data and tracks progress for neighborhoods targeted for redevelopment. Utilizes geographic information systems to analyze data and monitor revitalization activities. Researches and evaluates community needs from compiled data. Coordinates and documents inspections for facilities and properties as needed.

: Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

: Primarily desk work. Requires ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer, Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to read and interpret federal regulations.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

: Work is performed in an office environment which involves contact with the staff and public. Bachelor’s degree in City and Regional Planning, Public Administration, or closely related field and three (3) years’ experience in community development programs and planning activities; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Working experience with Microsoft Office products preferred. The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment.
