Position:
This position is assigned to Actuarial Services Division and provides technical support to the Chief Actuary and the Company Services Group and completes the actuarial reviews of the rate bureau filings. This Financial Analysts II/Actuarial Analyst will assist with devising and conducting special studies on important issues affecting the P&C insurance and performs special technical projects under the guidance of the Chief Actuary. These special studies would include the data calls and reserve reviews for both traditional insurance companies and risk retention groups.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Considerable knowledge of general principles of actuarial science. This would include ratemaking, loss reserving and solvency monitoring issues. Considerable knowledge to analyze business and/or program issues and consult with business entities as needed. Considerable knowledge of organizational goals and how best to achieve them. Considerable knowledge of technical and administrative rules and regulations in the subject area. Considerable knowledge of the technical information required to effectively perform job responsibilities. Communication skills to relay industry information regarding current issues and to present findings in such situations. Information Analysis and Decision-Making skills to prepare and analyze financial information involving existing issues pertaining to the subject area and to present it in oral and/or written form. Problem-solving skills to interpret compliance and report to management the findings. Project Management skills to work as a team to develop new processes and procedures based upon changes in laws and regulations or industry practices. Ability to provide appropriate documentation to support conclusions. Ability to initiate and maintain relationships with industry representatives, co-workers, and others. Ability to organize and format reports to comply with applicable guidelines. Ability to review and document compliance with laws and regulations. Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills as necessary to testify and serve as an expert witness in hearings and communicate information within DOI or to external customers (such as insurance companies). Demonstrate the ability to conduct surveys, data calls, create and maintain data bases, or prepare other reports about the insurance industry as the law requires or as requested by management, the Legislature, or other division’s request. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in accounting, banking, finance, business administration, economics, or related discipline from an accredited institution and 1 year of directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Management Preferences:
Graduation from a four-year college or university, two years of relevant experience. Demonstrable aptitude in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access are necessary. All degrees must be received from an appropriately accredited institution. This position requires a minimum of two years of actuarial experience.
