Job Description

Assistant Actuary (National Life Insurance Company d/b/a National Life Group, Montpelier, VT)

Responsibilities:

Spearhead the development and upkeep of valuation models and processes essential for calculating, analyzing, and reporting reserves and other actuarial financial statement items for life insurance products.

Duties include:

Execute PolySystems model development and testing, ensuring priority alignment and effective coordination. Enhance and support the Actuarial Data Platform (ADP), contributing to its continuous improvement. Maintain and enhance valuation modeling processes, emphasizing efficiency through simplification, streamlining, and automation. Provide production support for the Valuation team by addressing issues, aiding in regulatory reporting, and supporting audit inquiries. Review, enhance, and support offshore reinsured business valuation and modeling. Guide the actuarial change management lifecycle, from initiation to successful implementation. Assist in the integration and optimization of new processes and technological advancements. Assist in managing and deploying actuarial valuation models. Assist in implementing governance policies and procedures as mandated by the company. Plan, design, and execute actuarial and broader enterprise initiatives.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field followed by 5 years of post-baccalaureate experience in an actuarial role in the life insurance industry. Experience must include the following, which may be gained concurrently: 5 years of experience with life insurance and annuity products. 5 years of experience using database tools including SQL, DataBricks, and Microsoft Access. 3 years of experience using actuarial software packages including PolySystems and

MG-ALFA. 3

years of experience in reserve analysis, financial/reinsurance/M&A analysis, and/or capital & risk analysis. 2 years of experience with actuarial governance and control frameworks. 2 years of experience with offshore reserves and reinsurance. ASA designation from the Society of Actuaries must be attained before application to the position. National Life Group covers the cost of Society of Actuaries Exams for employees in accordance with the company’s internal reimbursement policy. May telecommute within commuting distance of worksite.
