OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

Takeda Pharmaceuticals is seeking an innovative and strategicleader to join its R D Data, Digital & Technology (DD&T)organization as the Head of Data and AI Enablement. This pivotalrole is instrumental in empowering Takeda’s R D teams to unlockthe full potential of data and cutting-edge AI technologies,driving transformative advancements in research and clinicaldevelopment. The ideal candidate will serve as a catalyst forinnovation and value realization, leveraging scalable ecosystems,AI-powered analytics, and emerging technologies to acceleratescientific discovery, improve decision-making, and enhanceoperational efficiency, all while maintaining complianceexcellence. ACCOUNTABILITIES
AI-Driven Transformation:

Spearhead thedeployment and integration of advanced AI and machine learningcapabilities across workflows, embedding tools such as LLMs andgenerative AI into critical processes such as clinical protocolgeneration, molecule prediction, and trial optimization.

Continuously explore and integrate emerging technologies, ensuringTakeda remains at the forefront of innovation while tailoringsolutions to address evolving R D challenges. Position AI andgenerative models as fundamental enablers of data-drivendecision-making and empower researchers to uncover transformativeinsights that drive meaningful patient outcomes.

Data-DrivenInnovation:

The Head of Data and AI Enablement will play a criticalrole in fostering a culture of data-driven innovation by buildingcapabilities that unlock the full value of Takeda’s diverse dataassets, institutional knowledge, and insights. Drive thedevelopment of tools, workflows, and integration solutions thateliminate data silos, improve accessibility, and enhance agilityacross R D while enabling compliance with regulatory standardssuch as HIPAA and GxP. Implement and oversee fit for purpose datagovernance frameworks that focus on unlocking scientific agilityand enabling advanced analytics, ensuring reliable dataintegration, accessibility, quality, and compliance whileempowering R D teams to derive actionable insights. Enableseamless access to high-quality data and deploy advanced analyticsand AI technologies to position Takeda’s data resources as driversof discovery, trial optimization, and future therapeuticinnovation. Transform Takeda’s data into a foundational pillar forR D excellence by delivering scalable platforms and integratingemerging technologies to maintain a competitive edge and fosterscientific breakthroughs.

Drive Technical Excellence:

Architect andDeliver Scalable Solutions:

Design, develop, and oversee thedelivery of robust, scalable internal solutions that integrate dataand AI to unlock insights, enhance decision-making, and driveefficiency across research, clinical, and regulatory functions.

Elevate Technical Skillsets:

Serve as a mentor and coach to elevatetechnical expertise within Takeda’s teams, enablingcross-functional stakeholders to embrace data engineering, AImethodologies, and advanced analytics tools in their workflows.

EDUCATION,BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

Master’s Degree is required; aPhD in a relevant field such as Data Science, Computer Science,Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, Bioinformatics, ComputationalBiology, or a related discipline is highly preferred.

SpecializedTraining:

Formal education or certification in software engineering,artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, dataengineering, or related technologies.

Business Acumen:

An MBA orequivalent experience in strategy, management, or leadership is aplus, particularly for candidates with strong technicalbackgrounds. Minimum of15 yearsin progressive leadership roleswithin Digital, Data, Technology, or R D environments in thepharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare sectors. Experienceleading high-performing cross-functional teams across data science,AI development, software engineering, and operations.

Technologyand AI Delivery:

Proven track record of delivering AI and DataSolutions that drive documented value Proven track record indeploying large language models (LLMs), generative AI systems, andother advanced technologies to solve complex challenges in R Dfunctions such as molecule prediction, trial design optimization,and clinical protocol generation. Hands-on experience inidentifying, piloting, and scaling emerging technology solutionsfor research, clinical, and regulatory workflows. Proven ability todrive AI-powered innovation and develop strategic roadmaps thatalign emerging technologies with organizational goals. Experiencein translating novel AI applications into actionable insights thatcreate tangible business value for R D and broaderorganizational objectives.

Software Development and DevOpsPractices:

Experience in delivering custom software solutions forcomplex R D needs, leveraging both internal and externalresources. Expertise in implementing DevOps practices to driveefficient development-to-operations transitions and ensureautomation across workflows.

Data Enablement & Capability Building:
Strategic Data Leadership:

Proven ability to design and implementscalable data strategies that unlock the value of diverse dataassets, eliminate silos, and drive decision-making in R D,clinical, or regulated environments. Extensive experience buildingand managing Data Engines and enabling self-service analyticsthrough intuitive, AI-powered tools accessible to scientific andclinical teams.

Knowledge Integration and Governance:

Expertise inintegrating diverse data sources, surfacing organizationalknowledge, and implementing governance frameworks to ensurecompliance with global regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA, GxP)while maintaining data accessibility and quality.

Strong track record of partnering acrosscross-functional teams (e.g., scientists, clinicians, regulatoryprofessionals) to deliver impactful solutions, leveraging emergingtechnologies like NLP and generative AI to address evolving R Dneeds.

Base Salary Range:

$208,200.00 – $327,140.00 Theestimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for thisposition. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety offactors, including the qualifications of the individual applicantfor the position, years of relevant experience, specific and uniqueskills, level of education attained, certifications or otherprofessional licenses held, and the location in which the applicantlives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

The actualbase salary offered will be in accordance with state or localminimum wage requirements for the job location. U.S. basedemployees may be eligible for short-term and/orlong-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible toparticipate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan andcompany match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basiclife insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteertime off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.

U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendaryear, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible toaccrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
