We need anindustry proven leader to architect, deploy, and continuouslyimprove this platform, applying state-of-the-art machine learningand protein language models to advance large molecule assets fromHit ID through IND.

Department:

Biotherapeutics & Genetic Medicine(BGM) Discovery Research Core Responsibilities Provide scientificdirection, resource prioritization, and career development for across functional computational sciences team. Embed AI/MLtoolsincluding protein LLMs, structural prediction, and generativedesigninto antibody discovery workflows (target assessment, hitgeneration, affinity maturation, developability). Partner withdiscovery biology, structural biology, preclinical safety,developability, and enterprise AI groups to co-deliver portfolioimpact. Serve as matrix leader for digital transformationinitiatives; track KPIs and communicate progress to executiveleadership. Scout emerging technologies, benchmark againstacademic/industry best practice, and position AbbVie as aninnovation partner of choice. Key Outcomes Define, socialize, andexecute a multiyear AI/ML strategy for antibodies and otherbiotherapeutic discoveries. Hire, mentor, and inspire aninterdisciplinary team of computational and experimentalscientists. Deliver digital transformation use cases that shortendesignmaketest cycles or improve candidate quality (e.g., ML-drivenCDR diversification, developability prediction, in-silicohumanization). Establish data architecture that makes BGM discoverydata FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) andML-ready. Build external research and vendor partnerships thataugment internal capabilities. Qualifications Ph.D. inComputational Biology, Protein Engineering, Bioinformatics,Computer Science, or related field with 8years post-PhD industryexperience (or M.S. with 14, B.S. with 16). Deep domain expertisein antibody discovery and engineering (e.g., display technologies,repertoire mining, developability, CMC considerations). Provenrecord inventing or deploying AI/ML methods (protein languagemodels, generative models, deep learning, Bayesian optimization) tosolve large molecule R D problems. Demonstrated success hiring,leading, and retaining high-performing scientific teams. Trackrecord influencing cross-functional stakeholders and presentingcomplex ideas to scientific and executive audiences. Strongpublication and/or patent portfolio in computationalantibody/biologics discovery. Preferred Experience Delivery of anantibody therapeutic into preclinical development or beyond.

Handson experience with cloud-native ML infrastructure and moderndata architectures (e.g., MLOps, DataOps). Established networkwithin academic/industry AI drug discovery community. Location &Travel Based in Worcester,MA to enable close collaboration with BGMleadership; up to 20% travel to AbbottPark(IL),SouthSanFrancisco(CA), and key external partners. The compensation range described below isthe range of possible base pay compensation that theCompanybelieves ingood faith it will pay for this role at thetimeof this posting based on the job grade for thisposition.

Individualcompensation paid within this range will dependon many factors including geographic location, andwemayultimatelypay more or less than the posted range. This range may bemodified in thefuture.

Salary:

$177,000 – $336,000 We offer acomprehensive package of benefits including paid time off(vacation, holidays, sick),medical/dental/visioninsurance and401(k) to eligibleemployees. This job is eligible to participate inour short-term incentiveprograms. This job is eligible toparticipate in our long-term incentiveprograms
