Senior Researcher (Spatial Robotics)

JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to contribute to our research and development efforts. You will independently apply advanced knowledge of robotics, AI, and related fields to develop novel solutions for real-world problems. As a technical lead, you will demonstrate creativity, foresight, and sound judgment in conducting research projects. You will devise new approaches to solve complex problems, leading the development and implementation of these solutions through rapid prototyping and experimentation. Strong communication skills are essential for effective collaboration within Fujitsu and with external academic and industrial partners.
Job Responsibilities:
1. As an individual contributor, conduct research on topics including, but not limited to, developing spatial AI algorithms, building dynamic World Models, and designing intuitive spatial interaction including human-robot interfaces. Focus areas include Physical AI, leveraging Machine Learning, and creating adaptive control systems for multi-robot collaboration. Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals and contribute to Fujitsu’s IP portfolio through patent applications.
2. Lead the development and integration of our core technologies: Spatial Information Fusion-based World Model, Spatially Adaptive Robot Collaborative Control System, Human-Centered Context-Adaptive Interaction Framework, and Safety Guardrail-equipped Cross-Domain AI Platform. Direct and coordinate supporting teams to enhance these technologies, from data ingestion and processing to visualization and deployment.
3. Represent the Spatial Robotics Research Center at conferences, workshops, and industry events. Present research findings and demonstrate the capabilities of our technologies to diverse audiences. Develop and maintain a strong network of academic and industrial collaborators to expand our technical reach and explore business development opportunities.
4. Develop proof-of-concept prototypes to demonstrate the value and potential of our technologies at different stages of development. Utilize these prototypes to communicate effectively with target audiences and stakeholders.
Requirements:
1. PhD degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field. Master’s degree candidates will be considered only with exceptional qualifications and highly relevant experience in areas such as Physical AI, World Models, or Human-Robot Interaction.
2. Five or more years of relevant work experience. Experience in a fast-paced startup environment or leading research projects is a plus.
3. Demonstrated track record of innovation in robotics and AI, evidenced by publications, patents, projects, or contributions to open-source projects.
4. Ability to supervise, coordinate, and mentor a small team of engineers, scientists, and software developers.

Fujitsu salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each situation. The pay range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: specific skills, qualifications, experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. The pay range for this position is estimated at $119,000 to $170,000 USD. Additionally, this role may be eligible for a short-term incentive based on company results and individual performance.
