Pay Structure:
Level 1 (0-3 years experience): $30•$35/hr Level 2 (3-5 years experience): $35•$45/hr
Position Summary:
The position focuses on assay development for next-generation sequencing (NGS•based viral detection . The key responsibility is to convert existing bash and Python analysis scripts into optimized Nextflow workflows , enabling efficient, modular, and reproducible data analysis pipelines. The candidate will work closely with internal project management teams and collaborators, and contribute to the long-term development of automated bioinformatics workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement Nextflow workflows based on existing NGS analysis pipelines. Translate bash and Python scripts into modular, efficient Nextflow components. Use bioinformatics tools (e.g., BLAST, STAR, Bowtie, samtools ) to optimize workflow accuracy and performance. Contribute insights to improve workflow design and tool integration. Maintain detailed documentation and version control on GitHub to ensure reproducibility and transparency. Provide regular progress reports to project stakeholders.
Organizational Relationships:
Work within the Machine Learning and Computational Sciences (MLCS) group. Collaborate with the Biotherapeutic Pharmaceutical Sciences (BTx Pharm Sci) group.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science , or related field. Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.
Experience level:
Level 1: 0-3 years Level 2: 3-5 years Proven experience in: Nextflow workflow development NGS data analysis Programming with Python and Bash Using version control (e.g., GitHub )
Technical Skills Required:
Advanced knowledge of
Nextflow :
syntax, modules, configuration, and resource management. Strong programming skills in Python and Bash.
Experience with bioinformatics tools:
BLAST, STAR, Bowtie, samtools . Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud-based analysis environments. Proficiency with Git for version control and collaboration.
Soft Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication . Ability to work independently and collaboratively . Detail-oriented with strong documentation practices
