POSITION OBJECTIVES
The purpose of this position is toprovide data science expertise by: Providing statistical support inthe design, analysis, and interpretation of preclinical studies toenable quantitative decision making from target identificationthrough lead optimization Contributing statistical modelingexpertise to cross-functional project teams, working closely withcolleagues from Discovery biology, translational research, andpartner lines Effectively working with and gleaning insights from awide variety of data sources, from standard in-vitro & in-vivoassays to complex imaging data or sensor data Applyingstate-of-the-art data science methodologies (taken from statistics,machine learning, and AI) and fit-for-purpose statistical analysisin support of Discovery efforts from projects start through allstages towards
IND. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
Serve as globalstatistical lead for preclinical statistics across therapeuticareas. Play a leadership role in development and completion ofmajor data analysis deliverables and milestones in collaborationwith other functions. Drive/participate in development andimplementation of global systems, processes and standards tomaximize quality and efficiency. Provide or identify internal andexternal statistical expertise and capacity to support developmentactivities. Assess, communicate and propose solutions for internal,external resource and/or quality issues that may impactdeliverables/timeline at the program level. Contribute torepresenting data science function on project teams in support ofpre-clinical and clinical studies and compound level programs.
Perform end-to-end data analyses, from hypotheses formulation,experimental design, writing analysis plans, data cleaning,executing analysis, and preparing reports and documentation.
Strengthen Takeda’s advanced analytics toolkit by identifying andapplying emerging techniques, as well as by developing novelanalysis tools as needed. Collaborate effectively within a matrixenvironment, working with scientists in various therapeutic andcomputational areas to understand disease biology and to tailordata analysis to program-specific needs. Work closely with Takedastatisticians to ensure statistical issues in data analysis areaddressed. Communicate internal and external resource and qualityissues that may impact deliverables or timelines of the program.
Escalate issues to management as appropriate in a timely manner.
Increase the external recognition of Takeda’s data science work byparticipating in conferences, publishing work and developingexternal collaborations.
EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES ANDSKILLS
Education in a relevant field, for example a) PhD in afield such as Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics,Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Sciencewith at least 6 years of experience, or b) Master’s degree with aminimum of 8 years of relevant experience Hands on experience withand strong interest in some of the relevant fields of biology, andexperience supporting programs in Neuroscience, GI, Immunology,Oncology Advanced knowledge of pharmaceutical industry, overalldrug development process with expertise in the cross-functionalinterfaces with the Statistics function. Excellent oral and writtencommunications skills. Expert-level knowledge of data scienceprogramming languages (R, Python, and/or SAS) and experience withrecommended practices for software development. Stronginter-personal and people management skills. Strong projectmanagement skills. Significant depth of expertise in at least onefield relevant to the job (for example, machine learning, signalprocessing, etc.) and strong background in both supervised andunsupervised machine learning. Ability to work independently oncomplicated datasets, including all aspects of data analysis (datacleaning, algorithm development, statistical analysis, anddocumentation). A working knowledge of UNIX operating systems ispreferred, ideally with experience in high-performance computingenvironments. Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Willingness and ability to self-educate in new areas. Strongcollaborative skills and ability to work with a cross-functionalteam.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Access to transportation to attendvarious meetings held in proximity to the Takeda offices. Able tofly to various meetings at investigator, vendor or regulatoryagency sites. Base Salary Range:
$153,600.00 – $241,340.00 The estimated salary range reflects ananticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offeredmay depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications ofthe individual applicant for the position, years of relevantexperience, specific and unique skills, level of educationattained, certifications or other professional licenses held, andthe location in which the applicant lives and/or from which theywill be performing the job.
The actual base salary offered will bein accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for thejob location. U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-termand/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible toparticipate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan andcompany match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basiclife insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteertime off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendaryear, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible toaccrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
