POSITION OBJECTIVES
The purpose of this position is toprovide data science expertise by: Providing statistical support inthe design, analysis, and interpretation of preclinical studies toenable quantitative decision making from target identificationthrough lead optimization Contributing statistical modelingexpertise to cross-functional project teams, working closely withcolleagues from Discovery biology, translational research, andpartner lines Effectively working with and gleaning insights from awide variety of data sources, from standard in-vitro & in-vivoassays to complex imaging data or sensor data Applyingstate-of-the-art data science methodologies (taken from statistics,machine learning, and AI) and fit-for-purpose statistical analysisin support of Discovery efforts from projects start through allstages towards
IND. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
Serve as globalstatistical lead for preclinical statistics across therapeuticareas. Play a leadership role in development and completion ofmajor data analysis deliverables and milestones in collaborationwith other functions. Drive/participate in development andimplementation of global systems, processes and standards tomaximize quality and efficiency. Provide or identify internal andexternal statistical expertise and capacity to support developmentactivities. Assess, communicate and propose solutions for internal,external resource and/or quality issues that may impactdeliverables/timeline at the program level. Contribute torepresenting data science function on project teams in support ofpre-clinical and clinical studies and compound level programs.
Perform end-to-end data analyses, from hypotheses formulation,experimental design, writing analysis plans, data cleaning,executing analysis, and preparing reports and documentation.
Strengthen Takeda’s advanced analytics toolkit by identifying andapplying emerging techniques, as well as by developing novelanalysis tools as needed. Collaborate effectively within a matrixenvironment, working with scientists in various therapeutic andcomputational areas to understand disease biology and to tailordata analysis to program-specific needs. Work closely with Takedastatisticians to ensure statistical issues in data analysis areaddressed. Communicate internal and external resource and qualityissues that may impact deliverables or timelines of the program.
Escalate issues to management as appropriate in a timely manner.
Increase the external recognition of Takeda’s data science work byparticipating in conferences, publishing work and developingexternal collaborations.
EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES ANDSKILLS
Education in a relevant field such as Biostatistics,Applied Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, BiomedicalEngineering, Computer Science with at least 10 years ofexperience,. Hands on experience with and strong interest in someof the relevant fields of biology, and experience supportingprograms in Neuroscience, GI, Immunology, Oncology. Advancedknowledge of pharmaceutical industry, overall drug developmentprocess with expertise in the cross-functional interfaces with theStatistics function. Excellent oral and written communicationsskills. Expert-level knowledge of data science programminglanguages (R, Python, and/or SAS) and experience with recommendedpractices for software development. Strong inter-personal andpeople management skills. Strong project management skills.
Significant depth of expertise in at least one field relevant tothe job (for example, machine learning, signal processing, etc.)and strong background in both supervised and unsupervised machinelearning. Ability to work independently on complicated datasets,including all aspects of data analysis (data cleaning, algorithmdevelopment, statistical analysis, and documentation). A workingknowledge of UNIX operating systems is preferred, ideally withexperience in high-performance computing environments. Excellentoral and written communications skills. Willingness and ability toself-educate in new areas. Strong collaborative skills and abilityto work with a cross-functional team.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Accessto transportation to attend various meetings held in proximity tothe Takeda offices. Able to fly to various meetings atinvestigator, vendor or regulatory agency sites. Some internationaltravel may be required. This position is currently classified as “hybrid” in accordance with Takeda’s Hybrid and Remote Work policy.

Base Salary Range:
$174,500.00 – $274,230.00 The estimated salaryrange reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actualbase salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, includingthe qualifications of the individual applicant for the position,years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level ofeducation attained, certifications or other professional licensesheld, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or fromwhich they will be performing the job.
The actual base salaryoffered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wagerequirements for the job location. U.S. based employees may beeligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.basedemployees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, visioninsurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term andlong-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuitionreimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays,and well-being benefits, among others.
