Enterprise Data System Analyst) for our Department of Information Technology/Office Enterprise Data and Reporting. The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Office of Enterprise Data and Reporting works to provide data and research support to internal and external stakeholders of DPI. Under the direction of the Chief Data Officer, DPI collects a variety of data on the students, teachers, and schools from the PSUs for use in state and federal reporting, as well as internal decision-making. The Office aims to ensure both the easy availability of state educational data and the thoughtful use of this data in ways that promote better outcomes for North Carolina students. This office works to expand the department’s ability to provide the right data to the right people at the right time and creating the right tools, systems, and structures for three core audiences: internal department users, district and school personnel, and the general public. This Enterprise Data System Analystprovides consultation on issues and requests from business areas that require the implementation or creation of a custom solution, including reporting and data visualization strategies to effectively communicate complex data insights. Consults with senior-level decision-makers to discuss alternative technical solutions, incorporating visual tools to enhance understanding and decision-making. The position works with the Enterprise Data and Analytics Section Chief to organize and determine priorities when tasked with completion of deliverables for several initiatives at conflicting times. The position Is responsible for assisting the Enterprise Data and Analytics Reporting Section Chief in strategic planning efforts. As needed, meet with the Enterprise Data Manager and assigned business customers to gather information on upcoming technology needs. These needs range from business process changes and coordinating operations requests to evolving data needs, including new reporting and visualization requirements. This position focuses on transforming raw data into reliable, well-structured datasets that fuel strategic decision-making. Working closely with the Enterprise Data and Analytics Section Chief, this role plays a critical part in supporting the data infrastructure and engineering backbone of the organization. The analyst is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts across multiple SQL dialects (e.g., T-SQL, PL/SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL) to support data integration, validation, and reporting needs. This position emphasizes backend data development with front-end visualization work, with a focus on building scalable, maintainable data pipelines and queries that meet both state and federal reporting requirements. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across departments to gather data requirements, ensure data quality, and implement solutions that drive consistency, accuracy, and compliance across enterprise systems. Experience with scripting languages such as Python is highly valued, especially for data transformation and automation workflows. While familiarity with visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker is beneficial, this role centers on the structured development and delivery of data rather than dashboard creation.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in business application consulting or development; or Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in application consulting or development; or High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and six years of experience in business application consulting or development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
