Key Responsibilities:
- Leads user research and usability testing to understand the needsof patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals.
- Developsuser personas, journey maps and wireframes to optimize patient andprovider digital interactions.
- Creates and enforces designstandards and accessibility guidelines to ensure compliance withhealthcare usability standards (e.g., WCAG, Section 508).
- Worksclosely with clinical, engineering and IT teams to designintuitive, effective digital workflows.
- Enhances the patientexperience aspects of MyChart patient portal, virtual careplatforms and mobile health applications to improve patientengagement and satisfaction.
- Oversees and mentors a team of UX/UIdesigners and researchers.
The Vice Chair is a contributing memberof the Mayo Clinic technology organization and reports to eitherthe Chief Digital Officer or the Chief Information Officer. TheVice Chair will play a pivotal role in transforming technology atMayo Clinic including implementation of a flexible,outcomes-focused organizational framework designed to bettersupport innovation. This model establishes clear decision-makingrights and consistent prioritization for major technologicalinitiatives, improves key technologies, enhances our talent, andfosters inspired thought leadership along with an outcomes-focusedculture. The Vice Chair works cooperatively with physicians,department chairs, administrative colleagues, and allied healthstaff across Mayo Clinic. They may also serve as a liaison tosites, other Mayo business entities, or other Administration. TheVice Chair participates in planning and implementation of thestrategic and operational objectives in support of Mayo Clinic’stechnology goals. The Vice Chair is accountable for providingguidance, leadership development, and administrative support totheir teams and assigned committees. This role partners closelywith physician/scientist allies to foster a category of one dataand digital ecosystem through collaboration spanning the sites,shields and administrative shared services. A Vice Chair ensurestheir organization, and themselves personally, achieve the outcomesas defined by the CIO/CDO. They build a world class team of expertsand creates a culture of excellence, efficiency and innovation. Asan enterprise leader, the Vice Chair has a scope of operations withall Mayo Clinic business entities. The Vice Chair is accountablefor ensuring that the functions/operations of their area meet siteand other Mayo business entity strategic objectives while keepingMayo Clinic mission and values at the forefront. They developorganizational structures and processes to ensure convergence andefficient operations of assigned activities. The Vice Chair isaccountable for ensuring the most effective and efficiententerprise technology services, strategies, plans, technologies,processes, standards, and skills. The Vice Chair coordinatessupport activities with site leadership, Mayo business entityleaders, and corresponding administrative functions. They may alsowork closely with physician and administrative partners to developstrategies and tactics required to meet organizational objectives.
The Vice Chair will collaborate closely with the other leaders inthe technology organization. They coordinate with the ChiefInformation Security Officer to ensure the implementation ofsecurity and privacy policies. The Vice Chair is responsible forthe development of operating expense and capital budgets within theguidelines of the organizations overall goals and objectives. Theymay also partner closely with other organizations and vendors, andmanage those relationships at the highest level, to ensure to meetMayos vision. They also monitor organizational performance relatedto such budgets and support the CDO/CIO in assuring theorganization operates in a cost-effective manner. The Vice Chaircarries out responsibilities assigned by the CDO/CIO and acts ontheir behalf in their absence to ensure continuity of allorganizational operations, in accordance with the prescribedstandards, philosophy, and policies. Qualifications A bachelor’sdegree in technology, health care administration or related field;a minimum of ten years of significant leadership and managementexperience is required. Leadership and management experience mustinclude working with physicians and allied health staff in avariety of assignments. Must have demonstrated competencies inleadership, management, operations, finance, and excellentcommunication skills. Master’s degree preferred. A Vice Chair must have administrative experience working withphysicians, administrators, and allied health staff and ademonstrated ability to partner with senior leadership within thetechnology organization. A Vice Chair must have exceptionalbusiness acumen, the demonstrated ability to drive transformationalchange, excellent communication, both internal and customer facing,as well as strong team building and collaboration skills. A ViceChair must have the demonstrated ability to consolidate multiplerelated activities into a comprehensive program and the ability toeffectively manage budgets and drive efficiency in operations. AVice Chair must have the demonstrated ability to drivetransformational change, and the ability to stay abreast andincorporate industry trends.
