Minimum Requirements Must be a current BSO employee who has successfully completed their probationary period by the listed closing date.
Currently a Systems Technician with three (3) years of experience in the role at the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
Associates degree in an Information Technology field preferred.
Progressively responsible experience in network troubleshooting. Progressively responsible lead capacity experience in the successful completion of special projects, analysis of business requirements, and automated system issues.
Flexible to perform on-call work assignments including weekends and holidays as required. Experience should include extensive customer service contact work, strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability in setting priorities and meeting deadlines.
Communicate technical information and provide end user support to resolve technical issues.
Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license throughout employment without any restrictions that affect job performance.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration.

FEMA Emergency Management Training – ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 Nature of Work Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to provide advanced technical assistance and support for hardware, software and computer systems within the Information Technology Division of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. Employees in this classification provide remote and onsite support, as well as instruction regarding maintenance and utilization of newly installed software applications in conjunction with equipment. Position coordinates, configures, and maintains various public safety mobile system databases. Work involves assisting the unit supervisor with project activities involving planning, configuring, installing, training, and maintenance of equipment, software, and databases for the agency. This job classification is distinguished from the Systems Technician by the greater complexity of assignments and by the responsibility for providing lead capacity, guidance, and training to subordinate personnel. Performs related work as directed. Essential Functions/Physical Requirements The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Troubleshoots and provides advanced technical assistance and support for hardware, software and computer systems; coordinates repairs in a time efficient manner to minimize disruption in system utility. Functions in a lead capacity, i.e., reviewing work in progress, training subordinate personnel and providing assistance and resolution to issues that fall outside routine operating procedures. Installs new hardware, software and upgrades utilizing stand alone, on-line, and/or remote environment systems. Provides technical support for various public safety software/hardware technologies and applications including but not limited to: Records Management System (RMS), fingerprinting systems, License Plate Readers (LPR), mobile and stationary radio systems, and MacOS and Android devices. Analyzes workflow processes and develops recommendations for improvements and solutions using automated systems. Updates the status and completes calls for service utilizing the online tracking system; collaborates/escalates issues that cannot be immediately resolved to specialized support units as needed. Identifies and analyzes requirements for various automated systems. Identifies and provides resolution to software related issues through telephone contact or on-site visits as required. Configures systems equipment to end user needs and coordinates the implementation plan. Monitors problem reporting, updating, resolution, customer feedback, and problem closing. Writes technical documentation outlining end user instructions, posts instructions and documentation for end user reference. Coordinates installation of office systems products, and the use of external service providers for repair and replacement of systems, components, and peripherals. Liaison with unit representatives on quality control, workflow operations, and customizations/modifications changes to technology systems. Configures and supports agency level access and permissions through the management of user accounts, user groups and user rights. Performs system change administration duties at the agency level; monitors change activities as they are implemented into production; reports change successes/failures. Assists the unit supervisor in the development, implementation, and updating of policies and procedures relating to unit functions. Assists the unit supervisor in the development and planning of technology initiatives. Develops and maintains records and reports and other documentation relating to assigned functions. Assists in the coordination of special projects as directed. May act as a systems administrator; adjusts user roles and privileges as required by the position. Coordinates and delivers technology training to subordinates as well as agency personnel. Provide after hour support on a scheduled basis; responding to callouts as required. Is available during disaster related events, such as hurricanes, and special law enforcement/fire rescue operations. Performs related duties as directed. Tasks involve the intermittent performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). May require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects. Work requires the intermittent installation, moving, and modification to computer system equipment and peripheral components. Due to the varying nature and locations of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements consistent with electronics installations and wiring systems.
