Responsibilities/Pay Grade

JOB SUMMARY

H106 Performs routine technical work in supporting the operation, set-up, and maintenance of departmental computer-based information systems. Initializes, operates, controls, troubleshoots, and performs minor maintenance on multi-platform, multi-vendor information processing systems. Identifies, analyzes, and rectifies computer system problems or failures. The incumbent installs software, software updates, hardware, and peripheral equipment and may be responsible for program changes in software to ensure system integration and proper functioning of applications. Incumbents participate in the research and development of the appointing authority’s computer-based information systems and performs various tasks designed to ensure effective and efficient operation, record keeping, and report generation. Work is performed under general supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operates and controls computer systems, monitor system status, and ensure proper functioning through the use of prescribed system utilities. Serves as the first point of contact for users seeking technical assistance by phone or email, performs remote troubleshooting through diagnostic techniques and pertinent questions, and generates work request and assigns to appropriate support staff. Monitors and evaluates system status; uses programmed utilities to control job sequencing and data output; reviews operator’s log to determine system and equipment status, jobs to be finished on subsequent shifts, maintenance and repair services due, etc.; reviews job schedule to ensure timely project completion. Establishes and maintains office files, logs, indexes, control records, or other information concerning the work of the department. Tracks maintenance contracts and licenses for hardware and software. Submits contracts to appropriate manager for renewal. Equipment records management- Processes all surplus equipment for disposal/recycling. Adds new equipment to inventory and maintains accurate equipment records. Ensures all department equipment is in good working order; places maintenance calls as appropriate. Maintains inventory of office supplies and places orders as appropriate. Processes invoices, vouchers and purchase orders- verify items received and invoicing is correct in accordance with purchasing procedures. Maintain purchasing card records; maintains credit card payment allocation and statement reconciliation. Composes documentation for processes for the department. Enters, retrieves, updates, verifies, and deletes information from electronic files. Assists in diagnosing, troubleshooting, reporting, and resolving interruptions or problems in processing, software, or hardware; troubleshoots minor problems with system utilities or job control procedures; contacts supervisor or calls for service as appropriate; updates procedure manuals. Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining operational control procedures. Assists in setting up, installing, and ensuring the proper functioning of information systems equipment, cabling, hardware, and software. Monitors the computer equipment, environment and follows procedures for required or corrective action. Maintains basic logs and records of work performed. Performs all other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school with major course work in computer science, systems science, management information systems, or a related field. (Educational documentation will be requested upon offer of employment.) One year or more experience configuring information systems, installing software, maintaining and troubleshooting hardware, and maintaining service to users is preferred. Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses and Certifications:

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Driver’s License upon offer of employment.
