As our Senior Network Engineer, you will play a crucial role, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Sarasota County’s network infrastructure (LAN & WAN), including hardware and software. Examples of job responsibilities include troubleshooting complex network issues, ensuring optimal network performance, implementing security measures, and mentoring junior team members. The ideal candidate is motivated to stay updated on emerging network technologies, as you would oversee the overall health and efficiency of the network. The pay starts at $30.00/hr, based on experience, and could start as high as $38.00/hr! To be successful in this role, you will need current knowledge of infrastructure connectivity technologies, protocols, and methodologies.

Network Design and Implementation:

Planning, designing, and implementing network architectures, including LAN, WAN, wireless, and data center networks, utilizing various networking protocols and technologies. (OSPF architecture planning, DWDM planning and deployment, structured cabling, optical routing, etc) +

Troubleshooting and Maintenance:

Identifying and resolving complex network issues, analyzing network performance metrics, and performing preventative maintenance to minimize downtime. Installing and replacing equipment, being on-call, and providing support. +

Network Security:

Implementing and managing network security measures like Network Access Control and Optical Transport encryption to protect network integrity. +

Hardware Configuration:

Installing, configuring, and managing network hardware such as routers, switches, load balancers, and firewalls. +

Capacity Planning:

Proactively monitoring network usage, identifying potential bottlenecks, and planning for future network capacity needs. +

Documentation and Reporting:

Creating and maintaining comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configuration details, and incident reports. +

Team Leadership and Mentoring:

Guiding and mentoring junior network engineers, providing technical expertise and support. +

Collaboration:

Working with other IT teams (systems administrators, security engineers) to integrate network systems with other infrastructure components. +

Staying Updated:

Keeping abreast of emerging network technologies, industry best practices, and vendor updates. About the

E-Work/Hybrid Work:

Currently, this position is eligible to e-work up to one (1) day per week! After you complete your first six (6) months, contingent on work requirements and other factors, you’ll be eligible for this fantastic benefit. This position is required to participate in an on-call rotation with the rest of the team. This includes the availability to work within the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during emergency events (hurricanes, tornadoes, other weather or emergency events). This position has been assigned as e-role within the county which is to support the EOC before, during, and after an emergency event which will require the candidate to stay overnight (or to work nights) at this location to support emergency efforts. All county employees, regardless of their role, must be flexible during an emergency activation. About You To be considered for this role, you must have the following: + Minimum of a Four (4) year degree

  • AND•Two (2) years of related work experience.

  • OR•Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field•AND•Two (2) years of related work experience.

  • OR•Master’s degree•AND•One year of related work experience.

+

  • OR•Progressively responsible professional or technical experience as described herein may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree.

+ Valid Florida Driver’s License by date of hire. The ideal candidate has the following knowledge, skills, and/or abilities: + Several years of hands-on experience as a network engineer. + Relevant network certifications (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE). + Deep understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VRF). + Expertise in network hardware and software configuration (Cisco, Juniper, etc.). + Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills. + Network security knowledge and experience. + Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical Demands:

Employees in this role must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 lbs. Employees can use handling devices (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessive poundage of 50-plus pounds.
