Job Overview:
The Field Support Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and technical support of IT devices and equipment at various locations, ensuring compliance with company policies, safety standards, and service level agreements (SLAs). This role includes on-site technical assistance, troubleshooting, device configuration, installation, and managing repairs and replacements.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Management & Safety:
Responsible for the safety and maintenance of company-issued vehicle, ensuring it adheres to all safety policies and government regulations. Safely transport and secure approved IT devices in the company-issued vehicle for deployment or maintenance at various locations. Regularly report the condition of the vehicle to the Manager and arrange for necessary repairs at designated locations. Park the company vehicle at your residence in compliance with local government rules and guidelines.
Device Installation & Maintenance:
Install, configure, and maintain IT devices at customer sites, including stores and other business locations. Perform regular onsite device maintenance, updates, and configuration changes. Carry out single and bulk IMACDs (Install, Move, Add, Change, Dispose). Provide technical support and setup for special events, such as store openings. Perform grand opening standby support.
Security & Compliance:
Conduct security sweeps to ensure devices are compliant with security protocols: Secure EFT PinPads with locks or security screws, ensuring no tampering or skimming devices are present. Ensure all EFT PinPads have privacy shields and report any missing devices to store management for replacement. Secure Ethernet ports and customer-facing PC USB ports in common areas using port blockers. Ensure all kiosks and associated devices are properly secured with port blockers. Validate that EFT lock keys are secured and attached to lanyards.
Device Troubleshooting & Repair:
Troubleshoot and repair devices at customer locations to restore functionality. Replace or reconfigure devices, as needed, to ensure optimal performance. Ship and manage parts to and from the location as required. Perform remote diagnostics with users and provide necessary labor for device repairs.
Maintenance & Support Activities:
Perform remedial support for devices, ensuring they are returned to normal operations according to OEM standards. Provide necessary support for backup and restore capabilities. Validate and update device details, including model, serial number, and location, in the system. Conduct ongoing analysis of device performance and maintenance history to identify trends and areas for improvement. Report non-standard hardware or software and any deviations from company policies during on-site support.
Collaboration & Communication:
Coordinate with service providers, device warranty providers, and third-party vendors to manage device maintenance and repairs. Provide advanced notice of required OEM device upgrades or replacements. Share maintenance tips with users to prevent recurring issues. Maintain accurate documentation of repairs, including labeling devices, completing return merchandise authorizations (RMAs), and adhering to company procedures.
Cabling & Wiring:
Perform cabling and inside wiring work in adherence to company standards.
Break-Fix Maintenance:
Provide on-site support for device repairs and replacements. Follow proper protocols for entering customer sites and providing authorized support. Replace defective parts and devices with configurations matching the original device. Reload or update device software, such as operating systems, as necessary. Remove refuse, including boxes and wires, and clean the work area after completion.
On-Call & Overtime Support:
Provide on-call support as directed by management, adhering to company policies. Perform overtime support only with prior approval from management. Record and report overtime and on-call support accurately.
Backup Technician & Team Coordination:
Act as a backup technician for other team members in the region and follow leadership guidance. Collaborate with the team to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in IT device maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. Ability to drive and maintain company-issued vehicle with responsibility for transporting IT devices safely. Knowledge of security protocols related to IT devices (e.g., EFT PinPads, Ethernet ports, USB ports). Strong problem-solving and technical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide range of devices. Ability to perform remote diagnostics and provide clear instructions to users. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact with clients, vendors, and team members. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to work on-call and overtime as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry devices and equipment as required. Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Ability to travel to various sites as needed.
