Professional Job Description:
Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking an IT Analyst 1 in Computing Services. The Helpdesk Analyst will provide first-level technical support to faculty, staff, and other end users. This role is responsible for diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network-related issues, ensuring timely and effective resolution of service requests. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a customer-focused mindset, and a foundational understanding of IT systems and support practices. Major Responsibilities Deliver prompt and courteous technical assistance to faculty and staff via phone, email, remote tools, and in-person support. Monitor, prioritize, and resolve service request tickets using the organization’s ticketing system, ensuring accurate documentation of issues and resolutions. Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software problems across a variety of platforms, including desktops, laptops, printers, and peripheral devices. Perform imaging and re-imaging of computers and assist users with data backup and restoration procedures. Install, configure, and maintain hardware components such as hard drives, memory, and printers, as well as software applications and system updates. Provide support for network-connected devices including printers, scanners, and access points. Assist with the setup and deployment of new equipment and technology resources. Participate in physical installations, including climbing ladders to install access points or assist with basic cabling tasks, following all safety protocols. Collaborate with other IT team members to escalate and resolve complex technical issues. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or related field or two (2) years of experience in IT support, systems administration, or a related technical role. Basic understanding and knowledge of networking systems, operation systems, and hardware/software. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or related field. One to two (1-2) years of experience in a helpdesk or technical support role. Specific experience and knowledge in one or more of the following areas: network security, Linux/LAMP administration, Office 365 administration, phone system administration (PBX), Remote desktop environments, and/or 802.11 Wireless/WiFi.
