VPN Full Job Description Job Summary:
The Desktop Support Technician will be responsible for providing technical assistance and support related to computer systems, hardware, and software in our manufacturing environment. This role involves troubleshooting issues, installing and configuring equipment, and providing user training to ensure our employees have the necessary tools to maintain high productivity. A strong understanding of manufacturing-specific software and hardware, as well as a commitment to excellent customer service, is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide first and second-level technical support to end-users on a variety of issues, including hardware, software, network, and peripheral problems. Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, mobile devices, and other IT equipment used throughout the manufacturing facility. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently and effectively, escalating complex problems to the appropriate IT personnel when necessary. Support manufacturing-specific software applications (e.g., MES, SCADA, PLC programming interfaces, CAD/CAM software) and hardware (e.g., industrial PCs, barcode scanners, label printers). Perform routine maintenance tasks, including system updates, patch management, and antivirus checks, to ensure system stability and security. Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights in Active Directory and other systems. Document all support interactions, resolutions, and configurations in the IT ticketing system. Provide training and guidance to users on new software, hardware, and IT policies. Assist with network connectivity issues, including Wi-Fi, wired connections, and VPN. Participate in IT projects, such as system upgrades, hardware deployments, and new technology implementations. Maintain an accurate inventory of IT assets. Adhere to IT security policies and best practices. Collaborate with other IT team members and departments to ensure seamless IT operations. Be available for on-call support or after-hours work as needed to minimize disruption to manufacturing operations.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 5+ years of experience in a desktop support, IT support, or similar role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting. Proficiency in troubleshooting and supporting Windows operating systems (Windows 10/11) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Familiarity with network fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP). Experience with Active Directory user and computer management. Hands-on experience with hardware installation, configuration, and troubleshooting (desktops, laptops, printers, etc.). Strong understanding of IT ticketing systems and best practices.
Highly Desirable:
Experience supporting manufacturing-specific software (e.g., MES, ERP systems like SAP/Oracle, SCADA, industrial automation software) or hardware. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
