Help Desk Technician 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars Durham, NC 27711 Job Summary •Onsite IT Support Technician – 5 Days Onsite – Bio Tech experience is highly preferred for this role• We’re seeking a reliable and customer-focused IT professional to serve as the primary technical point of contact at one of our key sites. This role is fully onsite and will be based at a walk-up tech support station, providing real-time assistance to employees. You’ll work independently at this location, supported remotely by a manager based in Massachusetts and a local lab manager for lab-specific tools and applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver friendly, hands-on technical support at a walk-up IT help desk, resolving issues and answering questions in real time. Serve as the onsite representative of the IT team, coordinating with remote L1 and L3 support staff to ensure consistent service delivery. Troubleshoot and maintain desktops, laptops, peripherals, printers, and conference room setups. Provide support both in person and remotely via phone or remote tools. Handle software installations, system configuration, and hardware setup for office and lab users. Assist with onboarding and offboarding tasks, including account and access provisioning. Support users with day-to-day use of email, business applications, and file systems. Log all service requests and incidents in ServiceNow, adhering to response and resolution expectations. Track hardware assets and software licenses accurately. Follow best practices for password management and data security. Liaise with external vendors for advanced support issues. Participate in testing and deploying new software and systems. Create internal documentation and user guides, and assist with informal user training.
What We’re Looking For:
A people-oriented technician with a strong focus on customer service and clear communication. Someone comfortable working solo at a site, taking initiative to solve problems and escalate when needed. Background in desktop support within structured IT environments (ITSM/ITIL). Hands-on experience with both Windows and Mac devices. Familiarity with Active Directory, Office 365, Intune, and basic networking concepts. Bonus if you have experience with Microsoft Teams, AV systems, or MacBook support. Experience in biotech or life sciences environments is a plus, especially in lab settings. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent hands-on experience.
