Job Description

Summary Description:

The EMS Analyst, part of the Control Systems department within BITS, is responsible for supporting and maintaining NCEC’s GE Energy Management System (EMS). This senior-level role involves technical support, design, implementation, and troubleshooting of all EMS/SCADA-related software and hardware to ensure system reliability and operational excellence.

Academic and Trade Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electric Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field is required.

Work Experience:

Minimum of 10 years of professional experience, including at least 5 years in technical support for GE EMS systems. Experience with

DERMS, AVEVA

PI, RTAC, and HMI systems is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot GE EMS components, including SCADA , Generation Applications, SMP, and OAG platforms. Design, develop, and support EMS system enhancements based on operational needs and future requirements. Maintain and update GE EMS models and displays to ensure accurate system representation. Conduct point-to-point validation and commissioning of new field devices. Configure and troubleshoot telemetry protocols such as DNP, Modbus, ICCP, OPC, and DTO. Provide system administration and real-time operational support as part of a 24/7 on-call rotation, ensuring system availability and cybersecurity compliance.

Job Knowledge:

In-depth knowledge of real-time computer systems, including Windows Server OS, and Microsoft SQL Server. Strong understanding of the capabilities and limitations of software and peripheral devices used in Energy Management, SCADA, Telemetry, and other real-time operational systems. Proficiency in programming within the GE EMS Habitat environment using C++. Knowledge of Schweitzer meter programming, RTU/RTAC programming, and communication protocols such as DNP3 and ICCP preferred. Working knowledge of TCP/IP and Cellular networking General understanding of the G&T Cooperative business model, with the ability to translate power supply contracts into EMS operational requirements.

Abilities and Skills:

Ability to work collaboratively with Control Systems staff and EMC personnel to analyze, diagnose, and resolve technical issues. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop, implement, and follow through on effective solutions. Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

Reports to Director of Control Systems with external interaction with

EMC Members and Vendors, Consultants and Contractors Working Conditions:

Participation in a rotating 24/7 on-call support schedule. Occasional in-state travel required.

Hybrid work arrangement:

on-site attendance at NCEC’s location required on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
