Job Responsibilities Overseeing Daily Operations:

Supervises the day-to-day activities of the programming team, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

Project Planning and Assignment:

Prepares and assigns projects, ensuring that each team member has clear objectives and timelines.

Providing Support and Guidance:

Offers programming and system support to team members, helping them resolve issues and improve their skills. Collaboration with

Other Departments:

Meets with other departments to create automated systems and improve current processes.

Performance Management:

Conducts performance reviews, provides feedback, and addresses any performance issues that arise.

Training and Development:

Ensures that team members are properly trained and have opportunities for growth through cross-training and other development initiatives.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

1. Maintains the server operating system. 2. Installs, customizes, and maintains all vendor supplied software. 3. Generates, customizes and maintains communications software. 4. Provides operators with training required to make efficient use of the hardware and software facilities. 5. Supports Systems Analysts and Programmers in developing and implementing applications. 6. Acts as liaison between Operations and Programming. 7. Performs hardware and software evaluations and provides management with reports and oral recommendations. 8. Establishes and maintains standards to most efficiently utilize manpower and equipment facilities. 9. Monitors system performance and continually tunes as indicated. 10. Responsible for keeping systems secure at all times. 11. Performs other duties as assigned that are relevant to the civil service job description for this title.

Job Qualifications Minimum Civil Service Qualifications :

Must hold permanent status as a Systems Software Specialist, or; be reachable on the current Systems Software Specialist civil service list, or; meet minimum qualifications for provisional• appointment as follows: A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of data processing experience in vendor-supplied operating systems software programming and/or maintenance; or: B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two (2) or four (4) year college or university with an Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science or related field and three (3) years of data processing experience, at least two (2) years of which must have been in vendor-supplied operating systems software programming and/or maintenance; or: C) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of data processing experience at least three (3) years of which involved computer programming with at least two (2) years in vendor-supplied operating systems software programming and/or maintenance; or: D) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C).

Additional Qualifications:
Technical Expertise:

Proficiency in modern programming languages and technologies relevant to the organization’s needs, such as C#, JavaScript, and SQL.

Experience:

At least 2 years of programming experience and a total of 4 years of experience with computers. Supervisory experience is a plus.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills are essential for addressing technical challenges and optimizing performance.

Communication Skills:

Effective and professional communication is crucial for collaborating with team members and other departments.

Leadership Abilities:

The ability to guide, encourage, direct, and monitor team members is important for a supervisory role.

Project Management:

Experience in project planning, task assignment, and resource management. The successful candidate will be required to sit for an upcoming Civil Service exam and score high enough to become reachable
