Overview :
This part-time position supports the Targeted Investment in Youth Project (TIYP) Initiative. TIYP is a gun violence diversionary strategy, targeting “at risk” youth ages 10-17 in high impact neighborhoods in West and Southwest Philadelphia. Located at 4508 Lancaster Avenue in West Philadelphia, the Computer Lab Instructor will provide instruction on basic computer skills to participating young people in a safe and nurturing environment.
Education:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or related field is preferred.
Experience and Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with computers in Windows to include relevant applications and software (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite), and Internet browsing. Minimum one year’s experience providing group instruction (experience instructing teen-aged participants is a plus). Extensive knowledge and experience in computer set-up, use, functionality and maintenance of computer equipment. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Must be able to engage and motivate youth in computer equipment operations/training Must clear Childline and Criminal background checks.
Responsibilities:
Conduct hands-on training to youth participating in the program regarding the basic use of computer hardware and software applications. Evaluate progress and provide feedback. Function as the technical expert on equipment and set-up . Check equipment functionality and interfaces with staff/youth to ensure optimal use of equipment Ensure that the internet in the classroom is used only for appropriate educational purposes. Alert supervisors of critical issues impacting equipment usage, functionality, etc. Work closely with TIYP staff in the set-up of computer equipment, training and purchasing equipment.
