GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Office of Information Technology manages all technology resources for on campus and online learning. The Computer Support Technician provides level two support to university students and employees related to computer systems, hardware, and software. This position will be responsible for answering queries, resolving issues in a timely manner, and ensuring the smooth operation of IT systems.

Responsibilities:

Provide level 2 technical and administrative support to university students and employees by Diagnosing and fixing computer hardware and software problems.
Performing regular maintenance tasks like updates, backups, and system checks to ensure systems are running optimally.
Install and maintain university-owned assets such as telephones, copiers/printers, mobile devices, and computers.
Manage the university telephone and voicemail system, including moves, adds, and changes.
Provide technical support to users by answering questions and helping them with IT-related issues.
Educate users on best practices and new technologies resources to improve their efficiency and security awareness.
Oversee print devices owned or leased by the university.
Handle hardware and software warranty, maintenance, and security information.
Perform hardware and software installations, maintenance, and upgrades on university-owned equipment.
Support users of the university’s student information system (Jenzabar).
Create and maintain user accounts.
Serve as a backup for level 1 support when necessary.
Keep accurate and detailed documentation of issues, solutions, and system configurations for future reference.
Participate in professional development to stay updated on technology advancements.
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all employees.
Assist in planning, implementing, and assessing the university’s strategic IT plan.
Contribute to the preparation of the annual IT budget.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Information Technology.

Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, or related field required. Technical experience and certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience in a higher education environment is strongly preferred.
Proven experience in providing PC hardware and software support, including remote access tools.
Familiarity with various hardware platforms, software applications, wide area networks, mobile devices, and local area networks.
Strong customer service orientation, organizational, and communication skills.
Familiarity with integrated database management systems.
Proficiency with web-based, mobile, and PC applications, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

Visual acuity for editorial work, document proofing, and file management.
Ability to sit for extended periods in an office environment. May require lifting objects up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 20 pounds occasionally.
Availability to work evening hours and occasional overnight travel.
