A Technician provides basic training and technical support to end users regarding information technology hardware and software operations. Under the direction and supervision of the Information Technology Director, this position performs various technical tasks relating to the specification, configuration, installation, troubleshooting, repair, and general maintenance of Williamsburg County School District computer systems, peripheral devices, cloud voice, interactive panels, and networks.# Responsibilities and Duties

  • Prepares computers for installation using imaging software and performing various configuration tasks
  • Installs computer systems, peripherals, and software; includes preparatory tasks, transportation, physical networking, and power management and protection
  • Specifying and installing physical network media such as patch cables, access points, phones, and associated mounting and racking hardware
  • Performs troubleshooting (which may include Internet research and vendor contact) to correct computer hardware and software malfunctions
  • Installs software and hardware systems, including new equipment, antivirus programs, and other tools commonly used by the district
  • Uninstalls old programs
  • Strives to resolve malware and virus issues within devices and the districts network
  • Support one-to-one devices for students
  • Performs troubleshooting (which may include internet research and vendor contact) to correct boards and interactive panel screens
  • Works with team members to troubleshoot both complex and routine computer issues
  • Provides user training and support regarding the use of Williamsburg County School District devices
  • Maintains and updates skills as required to remain proficient with respect to advances in computing technologies
  • Assists in coordinating computer hardware and software purchases, including determining and gathering system specifications
  • Coordinates repair, replacement, or return of hardware and software with vendors to resolve operating problems encountered by product users
  • Communicates with individuals by phone and email to solve technical problems
  • Adapts quickly to changing circumstances, new standards, and requests by Williamsburg County School District
  • Acts quickly in crisis situations so the district can resume normal operations as soon as possible
  • Performs other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QualificationsKnowledge of:

Basic computing concepts; fundamental networking concepts.

Windows operating systems, mainstream client software applications, productivity software, and common utilities.

Computer hardware components and functions; computer repair techniques.

Standard user services including print, file, and directory services.

Education/Training

  • A high school diploma or GED supplemented by college level course work in computing technologies.

College degree and vendor certifications (including Microsoft and Cisco) for the Professional level are preferred.

Experience

  • Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:
  • Two to five years of increasing responsibility for computer service operations
  • Experience installing and maintaining end-user computer systems and recent experience working as a technician at a computer repair facility is preferred, but not required.
