No Job Summary Auburn University Libraries is seeking a Systems Engineer charged with setting up and maintaining servers per University and Library IT policies, plans, and guidelines. This position will need a strong working knowledge of server operating systems, including Linux (primary) and Windows (secondary). The Libraries’ servers are primarily hosted in a virtual environment. The position will be responsible for setting up and supporting physical server hardware as needed. There is an expectation of night and weekend work to perform maintenance tasks or troubleshoot system outages. Provides technical design, implementation, maintenance, system administration, and support of server software and hardware.
Provides consultation and advising, problem identification and resolution, training and preparation/maintenance of documentation, and end-user support for server-related tasks.
Participates in projects and cross-functional activities related to information technology initiatives or processes.
Collaborates with project leaders and management to identify technology gaps, investigate upcoming technologies, and recommend changes and improvements.
Provides on-call support for designated systems and services.
Collaborates with our central Office of Information Technology (OIT) which handles virtual machine hosting, networking, and other structural technologies for campus. Why Work at Auburn?

Minimum Qualifications Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Area of Experience:

Experience administering distributed computer systems, preferably in a university setting. Thorough knowledge of Linux system administration and virtualization. Level I
Associate Systems Engineer (MA45):
High school diploma and 8 years of relevant experience OR
Associate’s degree and 4 years of experience OR
Bachelor’s degree and 0 years of experience.

Salary Range:

$48,790-$78,060 Level II
Systems Engineer (MA46):
High school diploma and 11 years of relevant experience OR
Associate’s degree and 7 years of experience OR
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience.

Salary Range:

$59,460-$101,090 Substitution allowed for

Education:

When a candidate has the required experience, but lacks the required education, they may normally apply additional relevant experience toward the education requirement, at a rate of two (2) years relevant experience per year of required education. Minimum Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of Linux system administration and virtualization
Ability to document clearly
Effective written and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of users and support staff.
Proven ability to initiate, track, and manage successfully multiple detail-oriented projects simultaneously Minimum Technology Skills Installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux and Windows server OSs
Experience creating firewall and security policies
Experience troubleshooting server related technical issues
Experience with vulnerability management
