Position Overview:

Team Ignite is seeking a highly skilled Software Developer – System Software to support the development, enhancement, and sustainment of complex, systems-level software solutions within the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) enterprise IT environment. This role focuses on operating system-level development, embedded software, network distribution software, and system administration for applications supporting military, business, logistics, and communications functions. Candidates will apply advanced principles of computer science, systems engineering, and mathematical modeling to design, test, and maintain software critical to USCG mission execution. Responsibilities include full lifecycle support, from requirements gathering and architectural design to deployment, documentation, and system troubleshooting. Developers will also participate in system integration, DevSecOps practices, security remediation, and continuous monitoring of enterprise systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Research, design, and develop systems-level and embedded software applications supporting diverse operational domains (e.g., aerospace, military, logistics, scientific computing). Develop software specifications and analyze requirements to inform system design and architecture. Provide technical support for implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of operating systems, network environments, and mission-critical applications. Conduct systems management, configuration, and integration to ensure optimal performance across Windows, RHEL, VMware, and SAS-based systems. Perform software and systems analysis to identify performance bottlenecks, compatibility issues, and architecture limitations. Support software and hardware evaluations, participate in validation planning, and perform regression testing. Provide technical expertise for defining standard operating procedures, system documentation, and database policies. Collaborate with systems analysts, cybersecurity teams, and USCG stakeholders to ensure solutions align with evolving mission and security requirements. Utilize Agile DevSecOps methodologies for rapid delivery, integration, and testing of secure system solutions. Conduct system health monitoring and vulnerability remediation based on security scan results. This position is pending contract funding.

Senior Level:
Education:

Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Math, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent IT Certification (five years of experience = two years of education).

Experience:

Five (5) years of experience in RHEL, Windows, VMware, and SAS environments. Five (5) years of performing security remediation for systems based on security scans. Two (2) years in Agile DevSecOps environments. Two (2) years with Kubernetes, Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket or equivalent tools. Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Experience:

Six (6) years with Kubernetes, Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket or equivalent tools. Six (6) years of mitigating Azure hardware/software issues, performance bottlenecks, and system health challenges.
