About the role:
The Samsara Data Platform team builds coreinfrastructure to enable the business to make data-driven productsand decisions. As a Senior Data Platform Engineer, you willcontribute to a scalable and reliable data platform to meet thedata needs of everyone at Samsara – engineers, data scientists,product managers, and more You will work on Big Data cloudinfrastructure that enables Samsara to make critical businessconclusions and enables us to explore new product directions.
Youwill:
- Lift a broad set of production data into a centralized datalake, and scale that data storage layer as the company grows
- Enable large scale analytical reporting in our products,integrating the data platform and data science work into the fullstack engineering space.
- Build tools (e.g. orchestrationframeworks, metadata catalogs) that democratize the use of data forthe whole business, including software engineers, data engineers,and data scientists
- Optimize our compute layer for reliabilityand performance (Spark/Databricks on EC2) This is a remote positionopen to candidates based in the United States.

- Collaborate cross-functionally to design and implement end-to-endsolutions using technologies like Spark, Delta Lake, and Golang.
- Develop high-performance APIs and interfaces to bring data insightsto life for Samsara customers.
- Optimize data workflows andinfrastructure for scalability, reliability, and speed.
- Design,scope, and build libraries and data management tooling for othersoftware engineers, product managers and data scientists to use thedata platform effectively
- Be responsible for the uptime,reliability, and monitoring of our data platform
- Champion, rolemodel, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on CustomerSuccess, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, BeInclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across newoffices.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- 4 year professionalsoftware experience in a production environment
- 4 yearsexperience on building/maintaining a large scale production-gradedata platform (including a Data Lake) for data scientists,analysts, and engineers
- Expertise working with Spark
- AWSknowledge and expertise (S3, Lambda, SQS, Kinesis) An idealcandidate also has:
- Experience with our core tech stack for dataplatform: Spark (Databricks), Delta Lake, or similar technologies(e.g Trino, Iceberg)
- Familiarity using Terraform
