Mission:
In this role, youwill focus on building a universal healthcare map search forKomodo, enhancing user asset searching and discoverability, anddeveloping semantic and syntax-based search for Komodoapplications. You will independently design and develop proofs ofconcept (PoCs) to validate ideas and solutions, demonstrating theirfeasibility and value. Additionally, you will collaborate withmultiple stakeholders, including product managers, designers, andengineering teams, to ensure successful project execution anddelivery. Looking back on your first 12 months at Komodo Health,you will have… Built the foundation for Universal Map Search bydesigning and implementing scalable geospatial indexing andretrieval systems, enabling seamless healthcare data search andvisualization. Developed and maintained Search SDKs to empower bothinternal teams and external High Code users with efficient,reusable search capabilities. Designed and implemented SyntaxSearch to provide an enriched, structured query experience withinKomodo applications, enhancing precision and usability. Developedand maintained the data infrastructure for Semantic Search,leveraging machine learning and knowledge graphs to enable deepercontextual understanding and discovery. Discovered new modalitiesof data connections to enhance Komodo’s Platform Search,integrating diverse datasets to surface novel insights and improvesearch efficacy. Collaborated effectively with multiple teams,ensuring seamless integration of search capabilities acrossKomodo’s products and data ecosystems. Demonstrated expertise inAWS infrastructure by leveraging services like Lambda, Kafka,Elasticsearch, Snowflake, Temporal, and Graph databases(Neptune/Neo4j) to optimize search performance and scalability. Youwill accomplish these outcomes through the followingresponsibilities… Develop scalable search systems that efficientlyhandle growing volumes of healthcare data and user queries,supporting Universal Map Search and broader Platform Searchcapabilities. Build and maintain the data infrastructure forSemantic Search, enabling intelligent, context-aware discovery ofhealthcare data. Implement and refine Syntax Search, allowingstructured query experiences that enhance user control and searchprecision. Improve code efficiency to enhance performance,accuracy, and resource utilization. Manage technical dependenciesacross engineering teams, ensuring seamless integration andalignment of search technologies within Komodo’s ecosystem.
Establish and uphold high technical standards, setting bestpractices for search infrastructure and search-poweredapplications. Influence the overall software architecture bydriving innovation and scalability in search and datainfrastructure at Komodo. Mentor and guide junior engineers,fostering a collaborative, knowledge-sharing culture thataccelerates team growth and technical excellence. What you bring to
Komodo Health:
Minimum of 6 years of experience Backend/APIdevelopment, proficient in Python and API frameworks such asFastAPI, Flask, or Django, and proficiency with SQL Experiencedesigning and building Search SDKs to support internal and externaldevelopers in integrating advanced search functionalities.
Expertise in developing geospatial indexes, vector indexes andretrieval strategies for large data sets. Proficiency inimplementing and enabling structured and context-aware searchexperiences in applications. Strong understanding of large-scaledata processing, collaborating with Data teams to manage andoptimize structured and unstructured data workflows. Deep knowledgeof secondary data stores and efficient retrieval techniques tosupport analytic processing and enriched search experiences.
Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, Azure cloud infrastructure,leveraging services like Lambda, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Snowflake,Temporal, and Graph databases (Neptune/Neo4j) to build scalable,performant systems. Proven ability to mentor and guide juniorengineers, fostering a collaborative and high-growth engineeringculture. Additional skills and experience we’d prioritize (nice tohave)… Search technologies, including indexing, ranking, andretrieval techniques to enhance search performance and relevance.
Experience building and sharing Search-related proof-of-concepts,leveraging frameworks like Streamlit, Jupyter, or internal demotools. Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks (React, Angular,Vue.js) to support the integration of search capabilities intoapplications. Experience with geospatial search and mappingtechnologies, especially in healthcare data applications. Expertisein developing and maintaining SDKs, enabling seamless integrationfor internal and external users. Familiarity with DevOps practicesand tools, including CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, andInfrastructure-as-Code for scalable deployments. Knowledge ofmachine learning techniques for search, including vectorembeddings, NLP models, and knowledge graphs to enhance semanticsearch capabilities. Experience working with large-scale graphdatabases (Neptune, Neo4j) and relational databases for efficientdata retrieval. Strong collaboration skills, with a track record ofworking across engineering, data science, and product teams todrive impactful search solutions. A results-oriented mindset,focusing on building high-quality, scalable, and business-alignedsearch solutions. Open to remote but strongpreference for NYC/SF LIRemote Compensation at Komodo Health Thepay range for each job posting reflects a minimum and maximum rangeof pay that we reasonably expect to pay across all U.S. locationsand may span more than one career level. We carefully considermultiple business-related factors when determining compensation,including job-related skills, work experience, geographic worklocation, relevant training and certifications, business needs andmarket demands. The U.S. national starting annual base pay for thisrole is listed below. This position may be eligible forperformance-based bonuses as determined in the Company’s solediscretion and in accordance with a written agreement or plan.$162,000 – $253,000 USD Where You’ll Work Komodo Health has ahybrid work model; we recognize the power of choice and importanceof flexibility for the well-being of both our company and ourindividual Dragons.
