JOB DESCRIPTION
Description SAIC is seeking a Senior Azure Cloud Engineer to join the Cloud One Operations and Sustainment Team supporting Impact Level 2/4/5/6 environments. The selected candidate will be instrumental in designing, automating, managing, supporting, and overseeing Cloud One Azure infrastructure. This role directly supports the Cloud One Common Computing Environment (CCE) under the Air Force Lifecycle Management Center Office for Network Integration (AFLCMC/HNI). Cloud One provides a global, interconnected, virtualized, hybrid IT infrastructure designed to support mission-critical systems, applications, services, and data for the U.S. Air Force (USAF) and U.S. Army (USA). By leveraging commercial cloud solutions and Managed Service Providers (MSPs), Cloud One enables data center migrations aligning with the Data Center Optimization Initiative (DCOI) to achieve enhanced operational efficiency, high availability, and scalability. This position is Hybrid Remote, requiring periodic onsite work for IL6 SIPRnet duties at designated locations, including Montgomery AL, Hanscom AFB MA, Andrews AFB VA, and Charleston SC. Applicants with existing access to additional SIPRnet facilities may also be considered.
Job Responsibilities:
Architect, deploy, sustain, and enhance Azure cloud environments, managing architecture and operational lifecycles.
Mentor junior team members, lead cross-functional initiatives, and actively contribute to strategic cloud projects.
Define and optimize collaboration processes between Engineering and Operations & Sustainment teams to enhance efficiency and service quality.
Collaborate closely with senior leadership to ensure technical solutions align with organizational objectives and mission requirements.
Identify and proactively resolve operational inefficiencies, tooling gaps, and process bottlenecks.
Maintain consistent customer communication through project delivery and support phases.
Deliver technical assistance and structured training for end-users.
Diagnose and resolve Tier 3 help desk escalations.
Conduct performance analysis, monitoring, and log management activities.
Deploy software updates across Integration, Test, and Production environments within Cloud One.
Support regression testing and other validation processes for Cloud Common Services.
Develop and apply configuration adjustments to mitigate security vulnerabilities and compliance findings.
Facilitate integration efforts and support application developers.
Execute patch management, ensuring accurate documentation, configuration adjustments, and necessary approvals.
Author, maintain, and deploy Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, PowerShell, and ARM templates.
Optimize configurations to improve system performance and reduce operational costs.
Continuously update and refine IaC for enhanced infrastructure management.
Evaluate and integrate innovative technologies, including AI/ML, to advance system capabilities and future-proof infrastructure.
Develop comprehensive documentation supporting maintenance and operational activities for Cloud Common Services.
Implement strategic plans to optimize resource allocation, reduce operational costs, and enhance infrastructure performance.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years or more experience; or Master’s degree and three (3) years or more experience.
Relevant professional experience may substitute for degree requirements.
Required Clearance and Certification:
Interim Secret clearance required; Ability to obtain a Secret clearance required to maintain employment
U.S. citizenship required.
Security+ certification or higher mandatory.
Required Skills:
Advanced proficiency in Azure cloud deployments.
Expertise in DevOps methodologies and Infrastructure as Code.
Proven experience with Agile, Scrum, SAFe, or equivalent modern software development frameworks.
Deep understanding of cloud security practices and compliance standards (FedRAMP, DoD IL4/5/6).
Demonstrated skill in task automation and virtualization (Docker, Kubernetes).
Extensive experience with Azure DevOps, GitLab, Terraform, PowerShell, ARM templates, or Terragrunt.
Demonstrated track record in infrastructure performance and cost optimization.
Desired Skills and Certifications:
Azure or SAFe DevOps certifications.
Prior experience supporting USAF or USA software development initiatives.
Previous experience within an MSP or IT service provider.
Familiarity with technologies including Terraform, Terragrunt, PowerShell AZ modules, ARM templates, Azure DevOps (CI/CD), Git, Tomcat (Java), Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Docker, Helm, Azure IaaS/PaaS/SaaS, Azure SQL, Azure Container Registry (ACR), Azure networking (hub-and-spoke, VPN Gateway with BGP), Azure Active Directory, Data Factory, Azure Functions, Azure Policy, and Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS).
Proven ability to effectively collaborate with senior stakeholders and lead strategic cloud initiatives. SAIC accepts applications on an ongoing basis and there is no deadline.
