The Office of Information Technology is on the lookout for a dynamic and skilled individual to join us as a Cybersecurity Engineer. In this pivotal role, you’ll be at the forefront of planning, engineering, and implementing cutting-edge security programs that protect our organization’s vital information assets. As a Cybersecurity Engineer, you’ll:
Analyze and ensure security controls are consistently implemented.
Integrate new technologies with IT security standards.
Develop and execute comprehensive plans for monitoring, assessing, and verifying security controls across all major information systems.
Collaborate with a talented team to create, evaluate, and exercise IT survivability and contingency plans. Essential Functions Ensures information security policies and procedures are followed.
Monitors real-time data, discovers security events, analyzes qualified incidents, executes documented resolutions for common incidents, recommends remediation steps for new incidents, and escalates major security incidents.
Assists with communication, reporting, and alerting on general information security issues as well as on specific assignments within Information Security tool sets.
Develops scripts and tools to verify security platforms and automate security team operations.
Implements new technology deployments and integration testing.
Evaluates information security products, services, and procedures to enhance productivity and effectiveness.
Maintains up-to-date understanding of best practices and security threats.
Works with vendors to resolve security problems and develops infrastructure solutions.

Minimum Qualifications Education:

Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years’ experience OR Associate’s degree with 9 years’ experience OR High School education with 13 years of experience.

Experience:

Relevant IT experience in administering security measures to monitor and protect sensitive data and systems from infiltration and cyber-attacks. Working onsite is a requirement of the job. Minimum Skills and Abilities Knowledge of generally accepted information/cyber security principles and practices with the ability to apply that knowledge to perform complex and non-routine specialized information technology (IT) security analysis functions such as troubleshooting, advanced analysis, research, and problem-solving.
Must have team leadership skills, negotiation skills, and advanced client relation skills.
Ability to remain up-to-date with privacy and security regulations.
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience. Minimum Technology Skills Strong technical aptitude and computer skills. Minimum License and Certifications Industry recognized cybersecurity certification required within six (6) months of hire date. Recognized certifications include the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Systems Auditor (CISA), CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) and others as deemed appropriate by the CISO of Auburn University. Desired Qualifications Current industry-standard Information Assurance certification(s): Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
Applicable security experience in a higher education environment preferred.
Experience with SIEM Management, Perform analysis of security, system, and network log files via SIEM such as Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, etc. Building analytics, dashboards, and scripts for detecting security behaviors within SIEM security products.
Manage and tune cybersecurity tools such as DNS, Privileged Account and Access Management (CyberArk, Beyond Trust, Delinea Secret Server, Intune Endpoint Privilege Management), vulnerability management (Nessus, Qualys), IDS/IPS, etc.
Implement new technology deployments and integration testing specifically for cloud security. (Azure, AWS).
Vulnerability management skills and understanding of common types of attacks & vulnerabilities such as CVEs, OWASP Top 10, and basics of system patching.
Experience with next generation firewalls.
Scripting experience in at least one scripting language. Bash, Python, etc.
Experience with server operating systems such as Linux, Windows.
