A business information security officer (BISO) is a professionalwho is responsible for the security of business information, suchas computer networks and data. A BISO typically oversees theimplementation and management of information security policies andprocedures. They also work with IT professionals to ensure that theorganization’s systems are configured and operated securely. The role of a BISO has evolved in recent years to include moreresponsibilities than just network security. Today, BISOs are oftenresponsible for the governance, operation, and compliance of allaspects of an organization’s information security posture. Thisincludes everything from incident response planning to strategicdata analysis.
